Is it illegal/bannable to "scam" someone in game?
So I've seen a couple people in trade chat trying to sell items for obviously good deals.
I was trading one guy for a 6L glorious plate for 5 exalted (obviously too good to be true, but you have to try?) He asks me if I can swap out an exalt for 5 gcps, so I cancel trade and grab 5 gcps. I then notice that he is trying to trade me a 4L glorious plate instead of a 6L (obviously). While I wasn't the victim of something like this, I remember people in Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 getting away with these without any consequences because it was the buyers fault for not noticing. This all stated, is it illegal to do this in PoE? It would be nice to get rid of people like this because its obviously going to have a negative effect on people that aren't aware, or too eager and trade without checking. Just incase people are wondering who to watch out for, his IGN is -removed- (ironically) Mod Edit: Please don't call out others on the forum. Regarding scamming and the like, right now it's a "buyer beware" situation, to my knowledge. I don't know whether or not this is something that will be enforced in the future (doubt it), but I've brought it up with other moderators/support in hopes to glean some sort of clarification. - Monopoly Legend IGN: thejarmo Last edited by MonopolyLegend#6284 on Apr 11, 2013, 10:25:06 AM

" You can't name and shame on the forums. Send a support email to GGG. |

I have already reported it in game, if its not illegal, I would like to keep his name up as a warning to people...just incase?

" No, it's totally allowed. It's a game. Your choice to accept a sale or not. caveat emptor. IGN: ScrubcoreRulezBitch Alt: HardcorePwnsScrubcore Last edited by mkmaddage#1774 on Apr 3, 2013, 9:24:39 PM

Never scammed and so far haven't been scammed but I'd rather not GGG have to worry about policing this kind of thing.
There's a mouseover and accept with trades, we all have eyes. That should be sufficient. Caveat Emptor. |

You have to mouse over the trade item before you can click ok.
GGG can't really make it more idiot proof, unless they start banning victims of scams. |

" If this is true (I wouldn't know, I never trade) then scamming is literally impossible in this game without the express consent of the "victim", in my opinion. Of course, I'm also a strong believer in personal responsibility as well, so the two thoughts may be related ;) |

It's most certainly immoral. The law should always take a secondary consideration to your morality.
For years i searched for deep truths. A thousand revelations. At the very edge...the ability to think itself dissolves away.Thinking in human language is the problem. Any separation from 'the whole truth' is incomplete. My incomplete concepts may add to your 'whole truth', accept it or think about it

" Add a "Are you sure?" feature with the item details showing on the screen without having to mouse over it. Then add a "are you really sure?" feature. |

I'm highly aware that this can only happen if someone is not very smart, but it is still concerning to see someone actively trying to trick people in trade chat with no consequence.
