Resolute Technique & Non-Crit Builds
As the title says I would like to suggest a change for Resolute Technique Keystone.
In the current state of the game its pretty easy to reach 100% chance to hit from a lot of different sources. Critical strikes modifiers as well as accuracy, from items (Watchers eye,etc etc), skill gems (such as precision) and skill tree are all around and very overpowered. Some players, myself included, think Resolute Technique keystone is VERY outdated and should be buffed to encourage players running non-critical builds as a viable option. Here are some options suggested by other players: Your Hits can't be Evaded Never deal Critical Strikes + Physical hits are lucky or other suggestions from players such as: always deal maximum damage with physical hits, %chance to deal double damage, %more damage, non-slam hits always deal maximum damage. *This balance change doesnt involve multipliers at all, so it would be a safe buff to implement, which will actually encourage some players to play non-critical builds. At the current state of the game spending 1 skill point into Resolute Technique isnt rewarding at all, scince critical strike is always the undisputed best option to choose. Although there are a few mechanics to be adjusted to this idea like slam hits and bleed, I personally think this would be a great rework for lots of players since this balance suggestion will provide more variety of playstyle into PoE. 25% Chance to Deal Double Damage is FAR too much... That would make getting 50%-60%++ Double Damage far too easy and make stacking Double Damage even more Broken than it already is. Its a huge multiplier to damage and especially now with that broken ass belt that allows Endurance Charges to give Triple Damage which also happens to Stack with Double Damage..
10% would be a good start though. Maybe 15% Tops and even that would be pushing it. Completely disregarding Accuracy used to be plenty enough bonus from RT until the Accuracy Rework now its so damn near trivial to get adequate Accuracy it pretty much made RT completely obsolete instead of just Niche so i do agree it needs something. Hell just changing the wording of Never Deal Critical Strikes to Never Deal Extra Damage with Critical Strikes would be an excellent option as to allow things like Elemental Overload to still work with it and other perks that just dealing a Crit here and there would help on some setups. There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation. The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear. Last edited by Demonoz#1375 on May 8, 2021, 1:54:42 PM

Well, Resolute Technique would warrant at least the additional affix:
ALWAYS DEAL MAXIMUM DAMAGE WITH HITS, instead of the 25% chance to deal double damage as it's centered around forfeiting variable chances for a CERTAIN OUTCOME. That would be a smaller boost than that "chance based moar multiplier", but would instead make you to simply consider ALWAYS THE MAXIMUM DAMAGE OUTPUT, which is more interesting. Relying on the maximum damage as the sole value in damage calculations will be more intuitive and place the focus on high maximum damage weapons. This would need to be ONLY AVAILABLE for RT and critical scaling would rely on "Hits can't be evaded" to still completely ignore Accuracy. It will also add some more needed "oomph" to either slow/fast high damage weapons which don't scale crit... " Thank you! Also, they could add the "hidden" caps to "double/triple damage" (which should be implemented for the entire damage scaling, but we're talking about TencentGGG here, which are, let's say at least subpar when we talk damage scaling balance - they have all the great "DIMINISHING RETURNS" systems that they stubbornly refuse to implement to control damage scaling "because reasons", but I digress) like MAXIMUM CHANCE TO DOUBLE/TRIPLE DAMAGE CAN NEVER BE HIGHER THAN 33%... Look and behold, a sensible HARD cap that not only makes sense (via soft cap you should NEVER GET ABOVE 30%, aka 10 "Brutal" charges, for triple damage), not to question their implementation of triple damage working on double damage - they should EXCLUDE THEMSELVES for balance purposes, but read the paragraph above instead... >.< Sometimes, I can't even fathom TencentGGG's devs thought process, and sadly, that seems to be the case even amongst them at times... " That would also be my take on it. Double damage is way too strong, but RT and EO together would make for a fine combination on elemental based builds. |

" Indeed it would also enable the ability for other interesting mechanics being able to still crit without getting the damage benefits from it. And its not like people would go out of their way for more crit just for things like COC to work with RT because your spells would also still not deal extra damage with crits because RT also makes spells not have the ability to crit either so it would be pointless might as well just scale crit and accuracy so your spells are potent. Its one way that they could change RT to be more viable and a lot more interesting mechanically. There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.

" But what of the non-ele builds? As much as we can debate that a % chance for double damage is IMPROPER for RT, so is pigeon-holing RT into EO... And I also think that going on Crit chance effects is the wrong way to address a KEYSTONE which stands for CONSISTENCY - hence my initial proposition. A NEW keystone counterpart to RT could be better served by exploring the "Critical strikes don't deal extra damage" interaction. Kongor's Undying Rage gave 4 sec Onslaught on Crit having exactly the "Your Critical Strikes don't deal extra damage" line next to "Hits can't be evaded", so that could open the new keystone for another interesting effect - why not add a Onslaught/Tailwind equivalent for damage? Have Overpower be the NEW mechanic that gives a "nice oomph" by making your damage LUCKY and apply the alternate elemental mechanics (sap, brittle and scorch) with increased effect on CRIT and also ignore HALF of physical damage reduction/elemental resistance on NON-CRIT hits... " Even if you have 100% double damage, it just equals to 100% crit chance and 200% crit multiplier. Not to mention it doesn't stack effect with other source that have guarantee 100% double damage(Paradoxica, Intimidating Cry...). And remember you don't have crit multiplier to scale its effect. So it's just a simple math...it's useless. But it may be some useful for early builds if it grant 40% chance to double damage. |

" You are aware that Maligaro's Virtuosity is a pretty good item for offering 300 crit multi just like that right? And it doesn't even give 100% crit chance on top. Getting 100% crit and 200 crit multi from ONE node is busted as fuck. Crit builds have to invest a ton to reach 100% crit and stack tons of crit multi on top, that's a lot of passive points and item affix slots that can't be used for something else that scales damage. If they could get 100/200 crit for essentially free that would be a massive powercreep right there. |
