How are people making money? Everything is so expensive on trade. Help?

Not a specific advice here but think about what others players need, and how to obtain it :)

Yeah, I was trying to do that and started trying to craft up some Cluster Jewels as I've heard there's good money to be made there. Spent 30 chaos on the base jewel, used a ton of Alts / Scours and got no good rolls. Basically spent 60 chaos to make nothing. That's been my experience every time I follow a "crafting guide" on YouTube. I mean I guess I can sell the Cluster Jewel back anyways... So then it's a loss of 30 chaos and probably a half hour of my time that could have been spent facerolling Tier 1 maps and I would have at least made *something*.

I dunno. Maybe I just don't like the game anymore. Seems like I'm constantly struggling and getting absolutely no where. It's to the point that I what, can't even complete my Atlas now without doing some cliche ED/Contagion build at league start...
Wait, why waste chaos orbs? Isn't Harvest good only for "chaos spam"?

For the price of 2 points in Haewark Hamlet, you get plenty of Harvests, and 90%+ of crafts are chaos spam.

On a side note, just made 5.7ex from a single Mastermind encounter - Aisling T4, Hilock T4 and a Flask drop. Took a while to set it up though, now I need to start over.

its not you, its the game that is bad.
ex are pretty high right now. you just gotta find something that sells for 1-2 ex and theres your start :)
Personally I like unusual gem grand heists, the rewards are pretty consistent. Engaging with trade to buy blueprints and rogue markers can be a real chore tho.
We tested it extensively
I know I'm late to the party here, busy farming.

The best advice that could possibly be given, get off the forums and out of your hideout, just clearing content as much as possible as fast as possible will net you enough to do any build you want.

Stop with the small trades, it can easily take longer to sell an item for 5c than it would to farm 5c while running your maps, as a general rule I will not leave a map for a trade less than 15c, it's just not worth it.

If you need currency farming information, slap a YouTube video on in the background (or on the other screen) and listen to it in the background, just keep moving.

Can't figure out what you want to do? Alch->go maps until you figure it out.

Taking too long to buy an item? Jump back into maps and try again in 30 minutes (or just msg the seller again as you finish each map).

Need new gear because you're struggling? Can't find what you need in your price range? Set the auto alerts for new gear within your price range, lower your map tiers until you got something that's a 2-3 minute clear (minus ultimatums, but still do them) and keep farming until you get an alert.

There are of course other ways to make currency, but all you actually have to do is just keep killing stuff.

And I know this may catch some flak, but the people earning tons of $$ aren't spending their time on the forums, so it's generally not gonna be the best place to get advice.

previous poster here has excellent advice that applies to most people struggling. A nice to the point summary.

Yep, those who knows how, prefers to keep silence and just better do things they do.

Also, this league is more prohibiting for many to obtain better gear, literally even to access and have fun even in mid yellow maps, not speaking about reds. Its ok, seems intended, GGG went a lil overboard with many nerfs.
Yeah, prices are nuts... just a average body armour with t2 life and res, and it's popping 80c - 1ex . These things were selling for 30c last league.

I'm also now barking up the a8 wall. Spent the day farming ultimatums, but probably had shit luck, cause I barely made 200x the entire day. That's no way any self respecting exile should be toiling for scraps.

LOL again GGG nerfing harvest thinking it'd make game harder for pros, but only made it harder for casuals. Exactly what I thought.

For mappers:
First error I see most players have with currency is that they don't max out their atlas score. Can start there. Second, not juicing maps.

Other players make $ by bossing, heist, etc.... and you can do all that with cheap gear so you know, just get good with your build.
`Spent 2 mirrors on my build, but I'm only Level 98.` LOL
`From just quick sweep of your characters, toxic rain, golems .. sure, non meta... sure.` LOL
`What are divs?`
I've always found the game immensely frustrating with the whole crafting / gear / currency situation. The game is obviously pitched at having players open their own retail store in order to progress. Can't just play the game, you have to earn enough to purchase the gear in order to tackle the content that would actually drop gear worth selling to be able to earn enough to purchase the gear...

There's some specific game design approach involved in this, but primarily it's about retarding the progress of a large group of players while allowing the efficient, powerful or extremely lucky to get ahead and 'win' the game.

I like trying out new and funky builds but mostly what stops me is how do I accumulate the 10 - 20 ex they seem to need to be playable? Build diversity used to be one of the big selling points for this game but so much of the game is simply beyond the reach of many players who just like playing through the actual game without turning it into a speedrun efficiency simulator.

So rather than give $30 to GGG for designing a shit end game that inhibits players from enjoying the game, I'd prefer to find someone else to give that money to.
