Playing PoE raises your I.Q

Projection's a hell of a drug.

I definitely felt smarter playing PoE. But I also feel confident enough to act smarter around other people after a few beers, so y'know, maybe this idea of 'elevated IQ' is mostly in one's head.

I'd rather a game that makes me feel happier than smarter though -- I associate 'smart' with 'miserable' most of the time. And don't even get me started on the curse of 'cleverness'.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

The game is stimulating on some of its aspects, a neuroscientist or two should study that.

This guy is a french neuroscientist who has a methodology that could be used to study PoE's impact on your psyche, [Removed by Support]

I'm educated enough on neurobiology and psychology for that (:

There's no proof whatsoever that games improve your IQ or cognitive performance - even games specifically developed for that do not increase your performance per se; they only improve your ability to solve specific tasks such as memorizing an array of numbers but once you have to start memorizing an array of words, all of your training does not show up.
Hundreds of millions on research, nothing to show.

We cannot even quantify what IQ or intelligence is.

PoE is good at abusing your reward circuits though which will drastically decrease your motivations for everything else productive.
I could probably write a good 5,000 word essay on that.

Ty for this kind of constructive answer. I wasn't expecting that from you.

Like edison said 99% perspiration 1% inspiration... I'll take a worker over a genius.

Edison himself hardly lived up to his ever quotable quotes. The man took credit for stuff other people did, much like his modern day counterpart Steve Jobs.

Here's a humourous take on Edison - https://youtu.be/gJ1Mz7kGVf0

Of course the other guy there^ is misunderstood too, but Edison is still a dick.

With that vision, we would all still be living in the stone age.

Worker is not the opposite of genius, this is a false dichotomy.

A lot of the great inventors were quite blue-collar with their hands. Probably a bit of a feedback loop there when it comes to the tinkerers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

I actually never said that genius and worker can't coexist. The biggest achievements are made by a combination of talent and perseverance. But it is undeniable true that one needs immense talent to achieve groundbreaking discoveries within science. A worker without great intellectual capabilities will not advance society although he will be very useful to maintain it.

After seeing the reddit and the forums i STRONGLY disagree with that statement.

Maybe the reason so few use the forums is their IQ has been raised to such galaxy brain levels that they stay the fuck away from here.
