That character is out of your league (and you know it).

Clarification: I said it was from early beta, not alpha. This is an important distinction: beta was the early 'closed' testing, alpha is the ongoing pre-release testing/bug-hunting of forthcoming content. The reason this is important is because the 'and you know it' comes from when GGG could count their playerbase with a bag of jellybeans. Family, friends, insiders, and then lucky key recipients. We're talking 2011 and early 2012 here. The VAST majority of these people were native English speakers and the idea of an 'international' PoE was years off.

I found it endearing and amusing at the time -- because I'm a native English speaker and seeing a little tongue-in-cheek humour from developers always warms me to them a little. Tends to indicate they're actually human and not merely a committee. This was key to early, support-seeking GGG. Garage, Inc GGG, if you will.

There is absolutely no place for this sort of local humour in TencentGGGG's PoE. Its lingering presence is quite indicative of how little they care about updating their game beyond adding layers of complexity and busywork each league. A microcosm of QoL indolence.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
I think you all are missing the point.

You get some Ritual League request for that 10EX item you are trying to sell and you are in the middle of a Map, you try and get out of the hot mess you are in because trying to type to the guy "wait a second" requires a 3rd party Scripting Software to provide a simple response when you cant take your finger off the trigger, neck deep in a delerium swamp. You get a moment to break free and portal out just to find out when you try to invite the guy, you get this retarded message.

This is the point.

Understand what is driving good and bad experiences in your software. The fact this still exists in the game since ALPHA, is ridiculous. Its not just the message, its the fact you talking to people in the game that shouldn't even be able to message you. In the end, it costs you a portal, your time, and your patience. The last "memorable" moment you have with this sandwich soup of an experience is GGGs jab at humor that is neither timely nor helpful.

Jesus, who cares about the joke... its a reminder how off they are and how long they have been off. To the point, they haven't even looked at the stupid joke.
I am surprised that so many adult people feel offended by such small joke.
Biggest compliments for my crafted items - "bs, they must have been RMT'ed"

For that, WoT_SeanChen has won a patience battle and after 1 year of solo-bumping their own thread GGG put a "Online in League" option so that you will know if the player with the 10EX item in Standard is actually online at Standard. Of course you can dismiss this new option - just as there is a chance a Standard player won't answer your Standard purchase, there is a chance a League player will actually switch to Standard for you -, but you can finally tip the chances on your favour with it.
IF ANY I would still give an autoreply/warning to the buyer and the seller about the fact the character in question comes from another league. Well, either that, or learn to friend first so that you can see in which league they are - but frankly, even if that would solve the problem, it's TOO much of an hassle doing it for EVERY trade.

Eep, my mistake.

The topic was already discussed at length. The bottom of it is: Not everyone understands that it even is a joke, and at that point, it is easy to get offended. I didn't really get it (also because I thought it was a weird reference to make), and I would say that my English is pretty decent, even though I am no native speaker.

An easy fix would be to display

SomeCharacter [in Ritual league]: I want to buy X from you.

instead of

SomeCharacter: I want to buy X from you.

in case the other character is in a different league. At that point, you do indeed know. Same could be displayed on the buyer's side. It's non-intrusive, and gives you all the information you need to know, and no one has to let go of their beloved quirky joke that half the people don't understand.

people from leagues have achieves by their name, you know instantly if the person messaging you is from a league or standard. everyone in a league gets a league achieve within a few acts, you should know just to look at someones name where they are messaging you from, its obvious.

i want to get messages for standard items while im in league and vice versa, i would switch to make a sale. the idea raised earlier that someone in a diff league than you shouldnt be able to message you... lol, wtf?
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

This is true although every few leagues GGG doesn't give the first challenge quick enough and then there is a bunch of folks asking to trade items playing in the league without any challenges by their name.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

Yea no one takes it that way. It's just stupid and annoying. I agree with the OP.

... no?

I know the person wants to trade in Standard, because it is in the message. I am in Standard. The person is in Ritual and was unable to operate the trade site correctly.

During Heist it happened a lot with misconfigured bots, that was even more annoying.

About challenges: Aren't challenges displayed for Standard players as well, if they have any? Some people play both league and Standard.
