Deleted Path of Exile (documents) folder - kept the folder, but renamed it and added a new empty "Path of Exile" folder. Apparently now it works.

Just tried this and it also worked for me. Just played for an hour when previously I couldn't get past the character selection screen. I had tried just deleting the folder contents previously but that didn't work. For some reason deleting the entire folder did work.

So, I tried everything posted in here, to no avail. The only thing that worked for me was to change the language from english to anything else. Weirdly and funnily enough, I haven't crashed once ever since, even though I can't understand the game or the items, I can at the very least play :p

Since this morning (probably after the hotfix deployment) game would not startup anymore. Closes during the first frames of the intro.

Tried various launch options from https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Launch_options.

What made it work is running with "--nosound".


You can run try it in steam by opening properties of poe and adding it to 'launch options'.


PS: have no fancy soundcard - just generic onboard sound

EDIT: actually other programs could not open *any* sound device, too. Strange issue I've never seen yet. Rebooted windows again, double checked that sound works in general. Now POE works without the launch option again...

I dunno if this'll help anyone, but it's worth a go.

I can't play on steam, like I'm not saying it crashes after 30 minutes or whatever, I just can't play, it closes to desktop without fail after 15 seconds of playing.

I ended up just downloading the game again, from the POE website directly and avoiding steam altogether, now I can play without issue. Luckily you can connect you're account and not lose all your stash tabs etc...

Again, this may help, it may not, but I tried everything stated in this post, none of it worked. Reinstalled, checked files, deleted folders, deleted shaders, tried switching language, tried launching with no sound, all failed.

The only thing that done it, was downloading direct.

in case someone has similar issue as I did.

game froze the whole pc. hard reset and after booting up it started crashing on first image of loading. only thing that worked was the --no sound option. checked the system sound option and handpicked default sound device for the game. after that all cool.
