For all you "Give us an AH" people..
Reading this thread, a statement that I keep seeing finally 'hit' me.
"There was also mention of 'public' stash tabs for people to browse wares. " FINALLY, FINALLY, my hard head realized what this meant. We're getting player shops! After that comes 10 minutes of me bouncing like an anime kawaii schoolgirl. WEEEEEEE!!! (though I imagine we can't strait up BUY from those 'stashes': we'll have to contact the person to set up the sale. Still very much prefer it to an AH since it means 1-2 superrich can't just grab the entire market in one sweep then monopolize it (though I can't speak TOO much against them as I've done it as well.) Grab every bow worth 1 chaos or less then sell them all at 2 chaos until the entire market follows suit. AH is easier to shop around in, but the second you get someone rich dedicated to manipulate the whole thing gets ugly. "shop style" creates more work but makes it possible to find good deals if you're looking for it as prices stay in flux. centralized prices create stability.. but also makes it vulnerable. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr |

" Anarchy Online had a player shop based trading system. You could search from terminals in town, but then had to travel to the sellers' shop to make the purchase. Depending on the location of the sellers' city, getting to their shop could be easy or it could be hard. System worked just fine, from what I remember... Dunno how that'd translate to PoE... Maybe a button on the public stash tab's window that opens a portal to a special shop zone, like Ledge with a shop at the end... How to search the public stashes is still a question though. Maybe the public stashes will be searchable from the forum? |

The Everquest Bazaar system was amazing. I knew people who just played merchants and loved it.

diablo 3 basically makes you play for the ah. you farm gold and gear just to buy things from the ah. while the ah makes things convenient, ppl will become reliant on it to make profits and to gear up. the ah was a factor in me becoming burnt out in d3, you got the money and gear relatively quickly. the rmah was the nail in the coffin for me, as with most others. in a game where a ah mechanic exists, ppl who decide to play self found fall way behind ppl that shark for profit and gear. currently, trading for profit to gain currency takes a bit of time, as it should compared to actually playing the game to gain currency.

forbid trading (and dropping item on floor) will be the solution
becuz: 1) You need to farm own gear 2) People will actually use orbs to make their own items 3) You dont need to waste your time on trade chat/ messages Well everyone is happy And this is so hardcore :) Last edited by Tom1989#3616 on Mar 30, 2013, 3:49:40 PM

I'd like to point out that this is Jay Wilson we're talking about, and taking any game-making advice he has seriously is insanity.
