Delaying 3.13 due to Cyberpunk 2077

I am disappointed in the decision to delay 3.13 due to Cyberpunk 2077 release date.

I have no interest in Cyberpunk 2077, and many PoE players I know don't either. I don't know of anyone who is keenly interested in Cyberpunk 2077.

ON THE OTHER HAND...

I know a LOT of people that were interested in 3.13 and seeing what was in store with the new design methodology. People who planned time off around Christmas to play 3.13.

With COVID 19 not going away I was really looking forward to spending a lot of time on 3.13 over the holiday break.

I'm not getting Cyberpunk, but I'm very glad this is happening. Historically, the December releases have been nightmarish because it's harder for GGG to get a team on bugfixes when half the staff is on vacation.

I hope they stick with January releases forever.

So you'd rather accept doing eff all during christmas, instead of excepting a huge company like GGG to get their shit together, alright... And you also think january release is better for their economy?
You just wasted 3 seconds reading this.

Is this sarcasm?

YES, OF COURSE I'd rather them take extra time and release a functional league, rather than take the needless gamble of them releasing a league they've had less time to work on when they have fewer hands available for rapid response fixes.

How can you even ask a question this asinine after the absolute mess that was the Heist launch?

Also, yes, I'm CERTAIN this is better "for their economy" as you put it, because I know literally dozens of long-time players who will quit, forever, full stop, if the next league launches as broken as Heist did.

I wasn't planning on getting it, but now there's so much fuss about it, it gets me to wonder if it's worth checking out. Almost now seems too big to miss.

I do also think they are fooling themselves if they think 1 month is going to draw back in anyone that leaves for CP 2077. Just looked it up, CP 2077 was originally set to release on April 16, 2020. That's about 8 months those players will have been waiting for the game since they were first thinking they would be playing it. I'll be shocked if people are bored of it in a month after waiting that long.

I'm just glad they said something about Flashback league or something that isn't Heist for while we wait.

During the month of delay before release, we will...

beta test to make sure it releases smoothly. JK!!

start work on the 3.14 expansion.

I'm hoping there's more to this delay than just CP 2077. Expectations for a smooth release are now at their highest.
I looked at Cyberpunk 2077 and read it is similar to a GTA game.

I have never played any of the GTA series, and if the comparison is true, I am not sure how much of the player base overlaps between PoE and GTA. Also, not sure how long a singleplayer game like Cyberpunk is going to keep people engaged the way a multiplayer game like PoE does.

I remain disappointed. I hope that the decision can be revisited as it seems a bit like a knee-jerk reaction, but at this point the flip-flop would likely attract some criticism as well.

The worst case scenario would be if they continue with the 3.13 delay and then release it in a buggy state or need multiple major patches in the first few weeks due to poor QOL decisions (i.e. not having organs auto picked up in metamorph).

Yeah you probably should have read their news update before jumping on this case since like Matt quoted GGG they said they'd finish 3.13 on their original planned date and immediately move on to making 3.14 which if it goes as imagined 3.13 will still have big issues but maybe 3.14 won't? Unless they only give 3.14 the same time frame and start 3.15 instead of ironing out 3.14 as well...

Who knows, could be a slippery slope. On a different note their update should have been completely different. They shouldn't have mentioned cyberpunk at all and should have said they were putting more time into 3.13 to make sure it's good (which they should be doing but it's GGG so...)
Delaying the game for Cyberpunk 2077 is just silly since both games have different audiences. If it was another major ARPG I would kinda get it but not for this :/, what's next we're delaying because Breaking Bad 2 is airing?

- - -

"We still expect to finish 3.13 by early/mid-December."

I'm glad they are being honest but I would have been much happier if they said they would use this time to insure that 3.13 launches without bugs.

Instead were getting:

"During the month of delay before release, we will start work on the 3.14 expansion."

At least we have:

"So that you still have some interesting Path of Exile stuff to play over the Christmas/New Year break, we're planning to run at least one multi-week event (for example, Flashback). We'll confirm details of these event(s) once we have put together a plan."

This is one of those cases where the 'why' overshadows the 'what'. I don't think many Exiles disagree that 3 months isn't enough, or that December releases are iffy. But to cite an otherwise unrelated game from another studio as your reason for delaying? I mean, take the L, TencentGGG. Just...take it already. You've shown us how excellent you are at owning up to mistakes and missteps in the past -- why this sudden dance of blame-shifting? It's weird. Really weird.

PS 'we expect' is diplomatic code for 'we probably won't but it'd be nice'.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Yep, I don't know about the other exiles but if they just said they wanted to ensure product quality and tossed a flashback event on top I would have been cheering.
