So why is the chineese client a much better game than the western one?
I just recently saw this thing on reddit and my jaw dropped:
https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/duplicates/jcsole/hey_ggg_could_we_get_an_explanation_or_why_this/ GGG seem to be pretending that thread doesn't exist, so it makes me wonder... Have they ever communicated over here that they intend to make the chineese client a much better game and not implement the very same QoL over here? It seems absurd to me that they'd leave out so many good features. Did westerners do something bad ot deserve punishment, or what? Last bumped on Nov 11, 2020, 11:38:47 PM

Different publishers, with different visions for the game, that is all...

Chinese publishers are way better than GGG. They know how to actually implement QoL features. AH / Trade feature is sensitive topic, but the in-game death log, semi-pob tree planner built in-game, and ascendancies preview are spot on. Giving GGG benefit of the doubt, maybe GGG doesn't have enough human resources to develop these kind of features as they have to develop new league every 3 months. But Chinese publisher do not, so they only received and apply the new league / new contents and have time to develop QoL features.

There is no explanation needed. The team in China is superior, and listens to their players better, which is sad really.
Sure some elements of p2w exist, but certainly not a fucking AH, PoB in the Client, explanation of your character options before you ascend, details of your death (which our GGG team says is a technical nightmare and basically impossible) Many people complained about this months ago, but it's like yelling into an empty hallway. Even big streamers were like wtf during that race in the summer. It's a really bad look, but it's clear they give absolutely zero fucks. Apparently quality of life for the community is a lot of work, in 7 years we cannot have a decent auction house like any other mmo, we cannot avoid disconnections without reason and we must continue without knowing the reason why we die...

" So, I'm going through those clips and it's apparent these aren't the actual features yall are yelling about. The 'pob in the client' doesn't look like like it has a TENTH of actual pob's information. It's a skill planner that adds up some stats. Still would be cool, but it's dishonest to call it 'pob in the client'. It's not 'details of your death' as you put it. It's a Death Recap. The 'death recap' for anyone who hasn't watched the clip is quite literally the name of the mob that landed the final blow, and it's basic modifiers listed underneath a mobs name. This ISN'T what most players want when they say they want a death recap, because just knowing that Gobbledrool the Old landed the final blow means almost nothing. And I'm not even going to get back into the AH debate. Which means this 'omfg ggg look at this list of features wtf are you doing' can be boiled down to 'seeing my ascendancies before I pick one is neat, and having a quick tree planner in the game is also neat.' But yea let's get worked up. Last edited by Bleu42#4018 on Oct 22, 2020, 7:40:08 PM

Let me first to say ... I like some of the features on the CHinese client.
But 'Better' Is subjective. People can have a different opinion, and grass is always greener on the other side. Gaming in China has a lot more restrictions, or 'safeties'. To have an online account in China now, because of their 'steel curtain' you need to provide valid id and all gaming accounts are registered and tracked. So if you break the law online (in a chinese server), like RMT, you can and most likely will get a knock on the door by the police. Also chinese culture is very much more accepting of P2W... for example the pet that picks up currency you have to buy every month. There are features there I would love, like integrated path of building. But Features I'm on the wall with, like Auction House. I want improvements to trading, but not sure about auction house. One area I would love to see addressed though, is more combating bots. Most of the currency flippers now are bots, and its all too easy to prove when you actually play the game. |

" Who's yelling? (Except maybe Raiz and the other streamers from the race) The Chinese client is hands down better. I don't even see how you could argue it legitimately. I'm with most people on the p2w pet stuff, but all these other items... wtf. All in All it's not worth anyone getting riled up at this time because nothing will happen. GGG can't even get Heist doors to work properly, let alone worry about this shit. I will say rushing to GGG's defense doesn't help anyone. It's just enabling poor development progress and strategy. So since we already have an elephant in the room from an expro, here's one from a current pro...vocateur:
Would you take the Chinese/domestic PoE's level of p2w/pay for convenience IF it meant getting the Chinese/domestic PoE's level of polish? I'm not saying that IS the cost; I think TencentGGG could do it without. I'm just saying that in my not-inconsiderable experience of dirty f2p games with p2w elements, the most successful ones balance the revenue safety net of reliable pay-for-convenience mtxes (what TencentGGG would consider pay to win) with polish and quality of life -- because it's just smart to keep your supporters comfortable and happy, right? Somehow GGG convinced us that the cost of being a f2p with minimal p2w is quality of life features because without p2w they need to keep rushing content out the door. That's bullshit in my opinion. And now TencentGGG are riding that fallacy despite introducing *far* more mtx per week (I checked before and after the acquisition; mtx announcements in the news have more than DOUBLED per week)...it's grotesque. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" I'm curious if this is simply a consequence of having a much larger team. Don't get me wrong I wasn't a fan of the Tencent buy out, and I feel its irrevocably changed things. I'm not sure the size of the team now, but it is much larger since Tencent got involved. So with those increased payroll costs, they have to push more mtx as that is their main revenue source, and it puts more pressure on the 3 month turn around time.
