The Heist hysteria is based purely and merely on exaggerated false perception

I think hysteria might be an apt term for it. I've been struck recently about just how far people are taking their rhetoric about a number of issues. Some have compared GGG to EA and Bethesda. Others have said things like

"I feel like we have reached an all time low."

"If this isn't rock bottom I don't want to see what is."

One poster said of the new hideout MTX that "This is like 100 times worse than announcing a mobile game on blizzcon".

Another poster said players who defend GGG are in an "abusive relationship"

A final one I'll leave you with is that the way maps drop from Delve/Betrayal is "literally like going to a restaurant ordering a steak and they come out and say, sorry, we're out of steak, you can have a dogshit sandwich or a deep fried pigs asshole."

It hits a lot of nerves

--AI wigging out and Tullina/Gianna/idiots not doing their job: players hate not having agency to salvage wasted effort.

--Heist lock puzzles being solvable by only one type of skillset means the player has no recourse to problem-solving skills and creative solutions to layouts and puzzles.

--All Heist areas appear to be extended procedurally generated versions of Maze Map - this environment puts some builds at a persistent disadvantage

--Lockdown mechanics: one escape route that is coincidentally your entry point forces backtracking which players have said time and time again they don't like.

--Harvest and Heist suffer from the same "disease": they are substantial side projects in their own right that TAKE AWAY from leveling and mapping and divide your already-limited time and attention from same. But if you choose to ignore them while leveling, by the time you get your shit together in maps, the encounters you are given at that time require loads of infrastructure and/or NPC leveling you haven't got! (And the encounters don't show up for you if you do try to retrace your steps and go back out into Acts to get low-tier contracts or seeds or whatever.)

--Harvest and Heist especially seem to deal poorly with multiplayer or group/party dynamics. I can see why little attention was given this in Harvest, which seemed designed specifically with SSF in mind. Most people who play online games do so to share with buddies. Balancing key progression mechanics around party play is important and should not be an afterthought!

The biggest ones are obviously the unintended ones, bugs and whatnot. Intentional design around Heist as the only content you do though, is rough on players who expect that GGG will usually let the player choose when and how to engage with a new side activity.
