Torchlight 2

I was waiting for TL2 since 5 months (when i buy it).
I found POE to waiting and that was a good surprise.

At the moment, i'm doing a break to wait the open beta, and seriously, all my gaming time go on TL2.

I think it's a good game, really fun. He is fast, you can choose your difficulty (loot are the same, strange, but good for casual), you can play in solo or in multiplayer, on internet or not.

He has a lot of build too, you can mix some skills of different "tree" to do an unique character.

Random on items and maps works great too (oh, i find my first legendary item this night) :D

To finish, i think TL2 and PoE are differents. TL2 is a funny ARPG, PoE feel more serious, and that will be a problem for PoE.

If you like dark world, you will compare PoE and D3. For me, PoE > D3, but for many casual customers, D3 is a reference and they don't will play at PoE because he is really dark, they will prefer a mix on cartoon graphics and dark :/
It's sad.

Sorry for my english !
Bought TL2 and .. it's alright.

The music is the best part. It's even better than D2s, which is no easy feat(the same guy incidentally).

Controls are not responsive; if you try to interrupt a combat animation there is a significant delay, the same for casting any spell or even attacking. The targeting and queuing system is also not as responsive as PoEs/D2s etc.

The difficulties are terribly balanced as well. Normal is basically an AFK test, while elite (the highest) is kite til you drop and wail away until fall asleep.

The pet is sort of a nice touch, but past selling/buying it's essentially worthless, because the AI is too primitive to evade powerful attacks i.e. it's not feasible to keep it healthy on any of the higher difficulty levels.

Character customization is kind of meh, but still there. It's not as elaborate as PoEs by any stretch, but it offers some choice and some build variety. It's roughly comparable to D2s with 4 tacked on spell slots.

It's not a bad game, but it's not a great game either.

20$ for it isn't bad, but I can't see myself playing it for any length of time comparable to D2, or this game when it comes out.

Just beat TL 2 for the first time (in Vet) and I actually enjoyed it. The cartoonish visuals are a slight put off but no where as bad as the first game (never touched it after my first few hours or playthrough).

There are a lot of things that are in common with D2 with this game and I love it for that. However the main presentation of the game, while cute is largely throwaway. You just want to do the quest and go on a click fest.

There are a few bugs in it too but but nothing that hampered my solo playtrhough. I personally did not care for the pet however. While most like to invest in a companion, I just found it catering to ease the grinding aspect (extra inventory space, shopping and selling etc).

Sure the difficulty is not uniform throughout the level but I actually happen to like it. There should be something in the game that should at least give some modest challenge even though its your first playthrough on casual. Diablo erred big by dumbing everything down on normal and revving up to inane proportions on the higher difficulty.

Skill tree is somewhat of a mixed bag... as a berserker (barbarian) I would imagine some of the passive skills would at least focus on playstyles (dual wield, sword and shield etc) and allow more proficiency in weapon types. The active skills were'nt bad but felt off since most of them seem a bit shamanic for such a physical character.

Perhaps my biggest gripe is how they implemented the frenzy/charge bar. I guess I am used to seeing frenzy as a speed attack that keeps speeding up with each successful hit ala POE/D2. Here its a charge bar you build up and then for a few seconds do criticals on all hits.

Splash damage could have been done better. It seems instead of having secondary multiple target attacks, the creators decided to include a sweep into the basic attack animation set. However, I don't see too many mods for splash damage that would increase the rate or add additional effects.

Wepon variety is there but its somewhat shallow and not really noticable. Besides difference in attack speeds most single handed weapons hardly tend to have any sort of personality (this is not counting the uniques and rares that embew weapons with their own unique skill). The large difference are done by class of single hands, double hands and claws (have not tried ranged or magic yet so no opinions).

The loot is definitely creative and varied like D2 but unique and set gear have been greatly trivialized. When you would see an item text in green meant that it was a part of a set and the item itself was fairly valuable. Putting it in a set would make it even more so. It may not have the stats and bonuses for your character but it can be traded or sold to other players.

But largely I found it to be a decent successor (indirectly) to the Diablo 2 series and am happy. Perhaps later on when Runic games feel bold, they might create a darker ARPG along the lines of Diablo 2 (even better if Buzzard sells the copyrights of D2 franchise and Runic grabs it). But right now its a stepping stone in the right direction.

POE, despite it sharing less traits to D2 than TL2, still has a distinct feeling of a D2 game. But I hesitate to judge the game on its current standing as it is still in an a closed beta status and rightly so. You can get the general gist of the game but it still lacks details and content. Coupled with plethora of redundant passive and active skill gems and a skill tree thats in flux, there is a lot of work to be done on this game before it can be realize by the general community. Throwing it out as it is now will make for a rather poor introduction compared to both D3 and TL2. However, this game has a lot of potential to outshine both games once it goes through serveral stages of refinements and further added contents.

Alas, I regret to say that the latest patch has somewhat made the game a little less enticing as my character is now less than incompetent with the same passive nodes selected. As such I am waiting for the next big patch to com through that will once again reset the skill tree.

Hello everyone, new guy here. I was very excited about TL2 because I had been craving a Diablo-esque game for a while.

In the end, TL2 ended up being pretty lackluster to me. That doesnt mean it was a bad game, but it definitely wasnt the Diablo 2 replacement I was looking for.

It was a total blast at first because of the loot drop frequency, but it quickly became apparent that I wasnt at all impressed with the story, atmosphere, skill design, or even loot design.

The entire system comes across as a half baked knock off to me. Skills dont synergize with one another at all, there's no sense of progression, and most abilities have no place in the gameplay model. The mechanics behind stats dont seem thought through at all, and the loot ends up seeming mostly trivial.

In regards to the story, it doesnt even come across like they were trying. It's like fanfiction.

So... yeah. It was a good game for its price, but it's not comparable to Diablo 2.

Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.
