PSA: Heist isn't timer based...it's a loot gate.

I think a lot of people seem to think there is some sort of timer.

The "alert level" is a loot gate. GGG has already confirmed that killing enemies does not effect alert level all that much. What makes alert level go up is actually looting chests and the artifact.

Looting chests make the alert level go up a chunk for each chest looted. More "epic" chests have higher alert levels. Crappy chests lesser alert level increase. As a result, if a heist has 10 chests... ggg want's you to choose OR get all of the ones near you as fast as possible and lock the rest of the heist down (if any thing remains). Taking the artifact in the main vault instantly sets off the alarms and locks the place down. The artifacts are sold in the bazaar to get coins that let you get to "bigger heists" where I'm guessing the league uniques are at.

There is no timer to escape. You just have to live. Kill all the things on your way out and you are always guaranteed some loot.

I think a lot of people are complaining because they think that the alert level increases if you kill enemies. It does... but barely (even from all of the video footage this seems to be accurate).

So you have a couple of playstyles:

1) Smash and Grab: You literally go in guns blazing kill as much as possible and MAYBE save looting chests until the end. The reward here will be limited as you are killing enemies which nominally increases the alert level.

2) Hybrid: You smash what you have to and sneak around mobs you don't "need" to kill. This will probably net in the best loot outcome as you will get some loot from killing and still be able to loot some chests (more since you didn't kill as many things).

3) Sneaky boy: Kill as few people as possible and loot the most chests. Most rewarding, but also more "time sinky".

I don't think any of these three playstyles will benefit that much more over the others. Smash and grabbers will get less loot but will burn through the instance so fast and probably do more instances (on average) than the meticulous player who sneaks around and maximizes each instance.

Just wanted to clarify, if there are people out there nervous about "another timed annoying rushfest" league.

So max block or herald stacking builds will shine again... Oh, wait!!

You do realize their's a timer aspect right?

When your alert level hits max their is a timer that allows you to grab the final artifact before it runs out.

You have a short time-frame to grab the final artifact before it goes into lock-down and you can no longer take loot.

I'm guessing it's going to be under 10 seconds.

We've only been shown a few clips, their could be other timer based aspects as-well.

Yes.

By the time the alarm goes off, you have most likely already collected the loot in the room you are in anyway. It just prevents you from exploring too much farther to open chests in other rooms you may have not visited.

That's the "sneak" vs "grab" decision they are trying to make. Once the 20 seconds get your loot is up, you have an unlimited time to escape. I'm assuming the longer you take, the more enemies spawn however (giving the illusion of making you rush).

There is no timer after that 20 second countdown to escape with your loot.
Looks interesting, happy to see minions aren't penalized since killing stuff wont really affect the outcome.

There is an escape timer ..if you don't escape, you lose everything. If you die, you lose everything.

Timer triggers on filling the alert bar, or by grabbing the artifact.

Every time a league has a timer, it will be hated. This is going to be the best / worst kinds of combinations of betrayal and incursion. People will hate having to deal with the heist members, hate having to build heists, hate having to jump out of maps to fiddle with temple building, etc., etc., and then have the culmination of all the work turn into a shitshow as something will undoubtedly go wrong.

It's going to be glorious for those of us who don't care what the league offers so long as they can exploit it to make an absurd amount of money / gear. It's going to be catastrophic for those of us who always hate the convoluted 6th grader game design.

No, there is NOT. Read the effing thread... https://old.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/ikss2w/announcing_path_of_exile_heist/g3o1g51

Do you see any timer here?

I'm sure some random streamer with random acces to information, said that you'll lose your gear if the timer runs out, so it's understandable if people think this.

So, to believe Ziggy or Bex? Hmmm.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

It's still a timer, like I said.

You don't escape, you lose your loot. You die, you lose your loot.

I think you're looking for an explicit countdown at the top of your screen that just leads to a "you lose!" to scroll across your screen and you get kicked out. Timers do not need to be so subtle. Delirium didn't have a physical clock on your screen, yet it was a timed league.

There's a timer.

There's a timer.

You're overstretching what "timer" means.

There's NO timer in escaping, you just need to survive. During "escaping" stage (after you get the artifact or max the alert bar) you need to "escape" & go to exit point. There's NO time limit on this stage, just mobs coming at you while you're "escaping". It does not matter you spend 1 hour in there "escaping" as long as you survive, you won't lose your loot.
