It wrong of GGG not to make it clear tencent now owns GGG
It is very wrong of GGG to not make it clear even in the video game of the involvement of Tencent, many of the supporters for this game did so because wanted to aid a struggling game company that was founded by gamers with a passion for RPGS. But now that it sold out to Tencent it should been made clear to us who now technically owns GGG, as alot us would not purchased the supporter packs or the overpriced gorging that is the MTX. Finding out after the fact is frustrating as in truth many of us would not have supported GGG if knew it is now owned by Tencent. We should be offered refunds if don't want to support a cooperation such as Tencent, and it should been made clear to us when Tencent bought out GGG that it was now owned by Tencent, alot us don't even know that fact. Tencent owns the majority of GGG now, they may said when sold out nothing would change but I believe alot the MTX prices and fact the currency is US not location NZ/AUS for the Oceanic is a sign of Tencent impact.

You must be new here. Your packs certainly indicate as much. Everyone knows who owns GGG. They also did publicly announce their acquisition when it happened.
" Gotta love it when ppl generalize from personal experience. " More signs that you're new. The mtx prices didn't change - they've always been stupidly high, cos except for stash tabs (which are discounted every 3 weeks, if you didn't know), they're all cosmetic. And the currency has always been in US dollars, cos that's the standard that has the most conversion options for everyone. Why would Tencent favor the dollar anyway? Wouldn't it be yuan? " Happy? -> Not that it's any of your business. It's exactly this kind of elitist attitude that led me to not display that obnoxious list of titles. I'll be taking it off again now. Hopefully you've learnt a lesson about being presumptuous, if not elitist. |

" I'd rather look at this as a question, so that we can actually discuss both sides: is it wrong of GGG to not make it clear Tencent now owns them? It is an interesting question. I don't think it's 'wrong' -- plenty of companies are subsidiaries and have questionable parent companies and don't make a deal out of it. I do find it telling that you don't see the rather recognisable Tencent logo anywhere on this site or in the game's start-up (last I checked), almost as though GGG aren't proud of their ultimate owners. Gosh. Or perhaps it's because Tencent has no real say in the development of this version of the game -- it seems to me their involvement is mostly in polishing/modifying whatever GGG send their way. And since they're not legally obligated to wear the globally contentious Tencent badge, it is no doubt in GGG's best interest to maybe not do that. This is one of those 'read between the lines' situations. I don't think it affects the majority of gamers or even supporters. Those who care where their money is going when it comes to supporting free-to-play games should do their due diligence and at least check who owns the developer. As for MTX prices and currency: E009 covered that, although he did somewhat gloss over it wasn't the prices that changed after the Tencent acquisition, but the frequency of release and the aggressive advertising thereof. There was a time when a top tier supporter (all support packs purchased) could own the majority of mtxes just from the GGGold that came with the support packs. That started to dwindle well before the Tencent acquisition but afterwards, it was utterly impossible. Especially with the introduction and proliferation of 'combined' gear (pre-Tencent I think, but definitely more frequent thereafter), which doubled the top price point for an armour pack to roughly $100USD. Fucking ridiculous. And that's coming from me. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Type "who owns grinding gear games" in google.
If this concerned you this much (not that I would blame you if it did) I'd say in the future to do a quick google. The fact that they are owned by Tencent is not hidden. Last edited by gladiatorpie#3317 on Sep 1, 2020, 1:36:39 AM

What I mean is when logging into path of the exile it should have a mention of Tencent owned. Yes I wasn't around when GGG sold out, I played it in beta long ago and supported back then. Came back thinking it was still a Indy company to find out recently Tencent owns it, I do not support Tencent.
