Is It Possible To Fix Gaming Toxicity?

As many have said; toxicity can't be "fixed". But if we ask ourself the following questions:

1) Is there anything that can be done to the game, to encourage good/decent behavior?

2) Is there anything that can be done to make social interaction better/more enjoyable?

3) Is there anything GGG can do about their flow of information to make certain things more clear/transparent?

...Then all answers would of course be "yes". Would it "fix" toxicity? Of course not, but it could make the game (and forums) a "better place", in lack of better words, and would most definitely remove a lot of frustration factors, useless whining and negative interactions. A community is always a product of the set boundries/framework.

Now, is the PoE community worse than other gaming communities of the same size? I don't think so.

Toxicity can quite easily be fixed.

Remove anonymity.

It's amazing what happens when people can be held accountable for their views and actions.
The answer is very simple: No.

And to be honest, i dont want it to be fixed. Its just part of the game. In poe i never expierienced much toxicity... well if you critic GGG or the game in general you get offended a little but thats it.

People love pushing this solution. I even anticipated it in the original post.

Suffice to say I think it's both far too simplistic, and far too optimistic.

Not to mention a great way to kill off one's game to boot.

You have to know your history, dude. Go back and see how "untoxic" the Blizzard forums got after Bliazzard pushed for a requirement like yours.

Sure, some toxicity comes from the ability to ba anonymous. But a game (and its forums) can't require you to identify yourself to the public. It's unreasonable. And some fools will be fools no matter if they are anonymous or not.

And, a last question, how could you (or GGG) hold me more accountable (for toxicity) if you/they knew my name?

if someone rly needs to be toxic and is not hidden behind some alternative name he simply chooses nicer words with the same foul meaning behind them.

everyone...at least those who bother not to be banned, become little snakes and hide much shit behind their fluffy unicorn filled word clouds.

There's an completely endless wave of people from the PoE community who want to disrespect or trod on what they cannot do themselves. Check my post history to see proof 101% just in case you don't know how vile this community is time to time. I liked the old PoE community where a pro got respect if you know what I mean.

1. "Tread"

2. I agree, definitely check his post history.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
Yes, the competitiveness and lack of ethics of the players in this game is staggering considering most of the game is non-competitive. Price fixers, scammers and general assholes are all over POE. But being a long-timer it has always been that way - but it is worse now. And that's only talking about the game and not the forums which are a million times worse.
