Can we get a summary of Chris's commentary from 7/18/2020?

The most important quote from this podcast, was this:

Chris: "We need dropped items to be in a much better place than they currently are".

Yes Chris, we do.

You forgot the second part were he explained how hard and subjective "better" is. How you may have 32 times better loot and it will still be trash.
My recollection:

- They know Harvest crafting is too easy but it was done that way on purpose. Not much dev time due to pandemic + league is very useful for collecting data on what players like moving forward for PoE2. They don't intend for god tier chase items to be as easy to make after this league - they want only a handful of god tier items crafted per league.

- Harvest is not going core in its current form, will be going away and getting reworked over time. Implication was that it will be back someday.

- PoE2's 1st act took a year to finish, the 2nd act is on pace to take a year to finish. They have plans to get development of an act down to 3 months. I don't know the math but I would say don't expect PoE2 until 2022 at the earliest. They want everything to be perfect.

- Chris seemed to confirm that we WILL be getting the autosort to premium tabs that was teased, but we're never going to have straight pay to win or loot pets or anything like that. Said they should've released a statement before releasing the new paid tabs to avoid the pitchforks. One interesting thing he said was that there was internal discussion on whether to let people buy or customize tabs specifically for doing the chaos recipe.

- The usual discussion on the value of crafted versus dropped items. They want a mix. Chris is worried that if they take the garbage loot out of the lootsplosions that people will think they're getting shafted, even if the stuff that does drop is better. They don't like the garbage loot dropping either because it hurts performance and costs them a lot of money on servers.

- Item quantity (and rarity?) might be reworked into a multi-dimensional system where instead of more items dropping you'd get better items dropping instead.

I didn't forget it.

(Most) loot is supposed to be trash. For you to feel lucky - and for items to matter, it goes without saying that the majority of loot is trash. 32 times better + quantity scaling is still 32 times better. Of course, it will probably still feel more or less the same, but that lucky drop/upgrade will actually happen once in a while.

PoE will never be D3, thank God.

Thanks... that's exactly what I wanted.

Holy what the what?

Can I have a timestamp for that discussion? Last I heard they were still estimating early 2020 for the beta, only a couple months from their original target of december this year.

If they don't have any major expansions between now and then, PoE is going to get very, very stale.
