I keep seeing "just weave another button into the rotation" or "but warcries". What if I don't want to run another skill? It's a hack n slash. If I wanted to play SC2, I'd just play SC2. I play arpgs to GET AWAY from stressful pvp and apms. That's the appeal of a low skill ceiling genre.

then dont. its only 5% phys reduction, it won't make or break a build.
even if it did, it would only break builds that actually took it...which im really thinking weren't THAT many

Wait what that node is one of the most commonly taken nodes for anyone down at the marauder/duelist tree.

Even if enduring cry barely makes up for this loss, it's still a net negative since you have to play it as active mitigation as opposed to having it passive, and the tree also lost most if not all sources of % damage reduction, at least for phys damage. And vms took a huge hit too.

Also I agree with ngio's painpoint on this. His concern of having to press another button might sound stupid at first, but if you think about a typical melee build, there legitimately are already more buttons to press than a lot of other archetypes in the game. You have your main skill, travel skill, ms, vms, your dps totem, a warcry, your banner, and I personally have berserk. That's what.. 8 buttons? There's so many builds out there that need like 3 max. I don't get why melee has to do even more work just to break even to what they were at previously.
The passive was definitely a very powerful one, and taken by a disproportionately large number of builds, but it was one of the few opportunities on the tree to spec for mitigation rather than just damage or life, and it is a bit sad to remove it, especially when it hurts melee most due to location. (it was a bit too good for summoners, and as an anoint tho)
There's no powercreep here. Creep implies it's slow and could be overlooked, this is a full out sprint.
they added another node with +1 all max res. theyre still fine, just not absurd. having 77 all resist without loreweave is not a bad place to be, provided you also have some armor and basalt flask.
my guess as to why they took off most physical damage reduction is because a feared interaction with one or combination of two new keystones

No one took diamond skin before and if people take that now then it shows people dont quite understand how strong 5% reduced ele damage taken was. It was essentially a less modifier and one max res is about 4% less damage so it was actually a nerf to the node.

Oops ya meant crystal skin.

diamond skin never had +1 max ele res on it. +1 all max was only soul of steel, and there were 3 other nodes with +1 specific res that got taken but werent talked about.

Crystal Skin is going to give you +1 max, 10% all resist, and 50% chance to avoid an ailment (probably shock/ignite) because we're not giving up freeze immunity.

if you're pathing right past either soul of steel or crystal skin, 3 points is going to be worth taking them.

Imbalanced Guard is right next to Soul of Steel and i guess the that's the reason for the nerf. Lot's of PDR + that would make it very easy to reach the 50% cap from IG. Soul of steel still gives + Armor so it won't be too hard to go for 50% reduction on most melee classes which is way more than most people had pre patch.
And Unwavering Stance has been moved to a very awkward position. Previously the trio one can allocate - Bloodletting - Soul of Steel - Unwavering Stance has been totally annihilated.
Two-handed - Mop
Dual Wield - Slippers
One-handed & Shield (close combat) - Brush & Basin
One-handed & Shield (ranged) - Hair Dryer & Mirror
Main-hand & Off-hand (evil witch) - Sponge & Soap

what? it's not a build enabling stat, sure, but 5% phys reduction is pretty huge.

that spots called better for necros ^^ cyclone lost it they had to put it somewhere for them to take. (this is only half a joke my last 3 summoners all path'd to it and it saves like 11 points)
