New Wildfire

From the Wiki page:

"When a projectile chains, it bounces off the target it hits and continues in the direction of another nearby target. A non-projectile chaining skill like
Arc functions similarly. A projectile cannot chain to a target it has already hit. If a skill produces multiple projectiles, none of those projectiles can chain to a target which any of them have already hit. If a projectile has no valid chain targets, it will target a nearby enemy but pass through without hitting them"

This doesn't necessarily apply to a "ground targeted chain" though. I'm pretty sure magma orb can hit the same mob multiple times.
magma orb does hit the same target multiple times if the area is high enough and the projectile speed is low enough.

The fact we are finally getting +1 strike on the tree makes me more interested in this, its got potential.
I think the changes are such that it will make Wildfire be lost in the blizzard of more powerful skills. At least until we see the hoot owl on our window sill for 6 nights in a row.  :)

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

It being a strike skill truly ruined this skill. The chain won't occur unless you strike someone as the projectiles only generate on strike.

It will still feel bad. They really need to return it back to hitting the ground generates the projectiles.

This is exactly the main issue. If the orbs will trigger on shift clicking the floor? It can quite possibly feel amazing to clear and play.

But if it is like now and you need to hit a mob to even trigger the skill, it will be the most frustrating to play (as molten strike is now), not to mention that single target damage will be utterly garbage.

It's different though. Magma orb works like this:

"Magma Orb's projectile is launched through the air from the caster's location and lands where the caster is currently targeting (up to a maximum range). This causes an explosion dealing fire damage and then bounces in the same direction that it was initially launched. The impact has a base radius of 14, and a base spacing between impacts of 16 ."

So Magma Orb's projectiles are programmed to "chain" on the ground (bounce), then explode hitting the target with an AOE.
What probably makes this viable for solo target is not the bounces but the fact that multiple AOE overlap.

Molten strike says:

"Molten Strike is a strike (attack) skill that strikes an enemy, with some of the physical damage converted to fire damage. Each strike creates multiple molten ball projectiles that land to deal damage in a small area."

So 1) you hit an enemy, 2) projectiles then are generated and they land in an area, 3) the projectiles deal area damage.

I don't think the new version of Wildfire makes the projectiles bounce on the ground, rather hit multiple enemies.

Could GGG release a video about this?

If we read what the Magma Orb tooltip says.
"Lob a fiery orb that explodes as it hits the ground. The skill chains, releasing another fiery orb that repeats this effect."
I clearly states that it chains on hitting the ground.

If we read the tooltip on the new Wildfire gem.
"With at least 40 strength in radius, Molten Strike projectiles chain on impacting ground."

This makes the skill more similar in tooltip to Magma Orb than any other chaining skill. Because of this i feel like we can be pretty sure that the Orbs Spawned WILL chain of the ground even if not hitting a target.

"The distance travelled by its projectiles also properly scales with projectile speed now, letting you control their spread as much as you like." This statement makes it also very possible that we will be able to use slower projectiles to possible make the bounces hit a target more than once. This is also how Magma Orb works.

"It has now been completely redesigned to create a new playstyle for Molten Strike" Which atleast makes me believe that we should go more into the wildfire gem if we use that than the actual skills tooltip.

I do agree with everyone else that the main problem with the skill is that you can´t use it without being close enough to a target "can be increased by meele range". This change did come into effect after ancestral call support was introduced to the game since that support gem could double your damage if your placement was right.

They should just nerf the damage to half and give it back it´s ability to be used without a target since we can get +1 target in the tree, on gloves or on a warcry anyway. That would make the skill more fluent again without buffing or nerfing the skills damage output.

My doubt is, what makes Ngamahu's Flame + Cyclone better than Molten Strike now that I can't have +2 projectiles from Wildfire?

problem with relying solely on ngamahu's flame is its proc rate is pretty low.
i have theorycrafted a ngamahu cyclone build with 26 attacks per second, but even that is only 5 procs a second on a single target. it would be great for clear, sure, because its a 20% chance per thing you hit, but single target would suffer quite a bit.

i still might do it though as my league starter next league
