Has game died down significantly over past few days?
Well for one thing, what little endgame we have is dominated by people with unlimited time and resources (or multiboxing nolifes , whatever) that dictate prices simply out of reach for regular players, and there is a limit to how much one can reroll to keep himself entertained...
Also I honestly don't see a point in such an immense passive tree with so little skills to build around. And those skills that are available are VERY unbalanced (considering you want to create an effective character) so pretty much there are a couple viable builds on the table, and you can make something crazy and/or fun in default as long as you don't mind dying over 9000 times in the process. The game has been in closed beta for a long time, while what we have now in OB is not much different from CB. So all the viable builds and combinations have already been explored, too. But so far GGG is putting plenty of effort to keep the game interesting with releasing new gems/uniques every week creating new possibilites, but seriously, Arctic Armor and Cyclone are garbage. Some skills have mechanics that simply make other ones obsolete. Take Cleave - why would you ever use anything else as a melee character if your goal was not to gimp yourself, and other skills don't provide any additional utility (well maybe except for ground slam)? Seriously. Take LA - yes you can substitute it with Ice shot or split arrow, but both perform MUCH worse, and you can't even kite with ice shot (as would the name suggest) because of the base speed of most mobs. Take Freezing pulse - superior survivability/damage than any other intelligence skill (dual totem spork doesnt count). And there you have it - depends on which playstyle you choose you will most likely be using one of those 3 skills. There are very clear requirements you need to meet with your character to stay viable and they pretty much kill all diversity. And without diversity there will never be longetivity. I'm not hating, I absolutely love this game and I'd hate to see it die, but there are some serious issues at hand. Last edited by dezerus#6396 on Mar 24, 2013, 3:58:03 PM

" WOW! I have been playing PoE for almost a year. During that entire time, people have constantly said that Cleave was garbage, useless, no one would ever use it. Then they give it a 1% boost in DPS per level, and suddenly it's the only viable melee skill in the entire game??? Wat I don't even. |

" It seems people don't even want to try new thing in this game, like new builds and skills, they just follow what every streamers do. One way to have fun in this game, for me, is to try new stuff. PoE forums ignore list script:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/162657 0.4: added "ignore" button. ignore list is now saved locally.
TBH the game is very complicated for the average gamer so its not surprising to see people come and go. With that said, the unique crafting and passive tree keeps me entertained as I take my time leveling.

It's dying because:
spam bots free for all looting wonky chat system bulletin board is full of spam traders currency market is getting out of whack cookie cutter build followers game creation - "boss is already dead" It's NOT dying because: new skills released old skills modified new items released 4968% better end game than that other diablo clone; d3 it's in beta it's free What might help (imo) randomized quests per map "exclusive map" uniques (ie: 'thicket map' 1:1000 drops unique thicket bow) more recipies, more crafting connective maps (4 slots in the map loader = all 4 active/connected) doppleganger enemies (you vs you) reduced lightning OP, enhance fire - more explosive |

" When I go to the noticeboard, I typically see only 20 parties. Why is it so low? This absolutely cannot be the total number of join-able instances? Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

" Yeah but that would mean they had the brain power required to actually try new stuff. Get it? :D "May those who accept their fate be granted happiness.
May those who defy their fate be granted glory." Edel |

" this is a great idea! better still if it's non-tradable, otherwise defeats the purpose of it being exclusive.
" Hehe, he should have said "ele cleave with increased AoE" is overpowered. Somehow people in CB didn't think of doing this. Physical cleave is still trash... |

" Or, alternatively, you can take what you know about builds like LA, CI FP, etc and apply them to a build of your own. My Shadow here has very few deaths. All of them came from Act 3 Cruel and Merci 1 and all were either desync based (I use Flicker Strike and Whirling Blades) or gear checks (REALLY need a new chest helm and boots). But all in all my Mobility Shadow here plays like a robust well built character with a full suite of abilities at his disposal, is fun to be play, engaging, challenging (melee), has high hopes of being rather powerful with the new supports and generally makes my LA Duelist and CI FP Witch seem boring. Single Targets- Dual Strike 2k DPS Viper Strike 750 Chaos DoT Flicker Strike 1800 DPS AoE- Whirling Blades 250 DPS High Mobility Cyclone 450 DPS Curses- Warlord's Mark or Temporal Chains Alternatively I sometimes use- Rejuvenation Totem instead of a Curse if the pack demands a lot of in and out. Trap- Fire 800 DPS per second or Bear 1400 DPS Aura- Wrath 1-23 Lightning Damage I am not forced to spam one ability, I am not a cookie cutter spec. At level 56 in Merciless on average I die 0 times per day of play and level twice. No I am not over stacked on on a single death ability. I could run Bear Trap, mass link it and likely clear faster, but I, personally, am having more fun on my "well rounded skillset" character than my "spam my main til I drop" characters.
