Wait what? People still read global chat? I think the last time I used it was during Betrayal league. All went downhill from there

If you think PoE chat is toxic, please don't ever try playing League of Legends. But seriously, I've been on global many times over the years. Yes, some of it is trolly and contentious, but hardly to an unbearable extent. Methinks you just have a particularly thin skin, OP.

Also, it various a great deal by channel. Global 1 is easily the most trolly, but by global 10 you've mainly got people helping and advising each other. You just need to find the right channel. Here's a list of the channels that actually have people in them (there's well over 65000 global chat channels) -

Global 1 - 15 or so (the activity levels in the later channels will dwindle as the league goes on, but at peak periods you'll find people in all of them - they get less trolly the higher the number)

Global 100 (this one seems especially tuned to advising players - note that NO ONE likes doing price checks, even here)

Global 159 (used to be the Atlas map sharing channel, not as active nowadays but still some people on it)

Global 420 (cos 420, obviously - not very active nowadays tho)

Global 773 (the dedicated SSF channel)

Global 820 (this one's a spamfest, no conversation at all - it's the lab trials, challenges, rotas, etc. sharing channel)

Global 1801 (used to be very active once as the hideout sharing channel, not so much now but there's still people on it)

Global 5055 (the Reddit channel - I know most people here hate Reddit, but this channel isn't trolly either, rather it's more for the rich and crafting crowds in my experience)

And there you have it - the VAST majority of those channels aren't troublesome at all. You're just logging into Global 1-3 too often. Leave them be. If you don't like them, there's PLENTY of other channels you can check in to.

Teenagers face a lot of repression, from their schools, parents, etc. So put them on the internet with no filter and they think its suddenly great to be "edgy" and say non-pc things.

They also just love attention.

That might only make up 10% of the players but normal people who are tired of it will turn off their general chat, so they make up 80% of the global chat group.



As someone mentioned, HC it is totally different, you get good advice, thoughtful tips, adult conversation (mostly). Does this mean edgelords suck at the game and almost none play HC? Probably.

Usually if you spec into %100 shield block hypothetically in your mind, chats over the top toxicity can be swayed to the sidelines. As a person with mental illness I can say trying to for go an explanation as to the psychology aspect of why people do this..I would run my thumbs into the ground trying to debunk the answer. Easy fix is too lower your expectations when it comes to random people on the internet. Just learn from the experiences and try to be a better person through it all. Take away from the positives, not so much the negative. Cheers!
