For the record, I'd still love to see a F2P game be free for a few months, then switch to a B2P model (sure, with MTX cosmetics). It would effectively allow all the early adopters in free, then put a $20 price tag on it to keep botters, RMTers and the like out.
Everyone says it wouldn't work, but as far as I know, no one's tried yet. I'd just like to see it.
I like this idea for the reasons specified.
Actually, I wouldn't mind if they even charged existing accounts the $20. Heck, my wife's account has never donated any money. Then I'd have to fork over $40. :-)
I might get a bunch of hate on this one but giving more specialty tabs to all accounts but charging $15 per month or something might be another option. Switching from a F2P model to paid subscription model would be extremely difficult and not at all likely though.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

The model requires the F2P players to participate to keep the league's active for as long as possible so i don't think its feasable.
They would lose a significant amount of people if they changed their model which would probably result in a cummulative effects once it hits the economy and community participation.

WoW has a buy to play & subscription model and has many botters and RMTers so yeah, good luck with that.

Yeah, it wouldn't be feasible for something around as long as POE. I just think it would be interesting to see a company do it with a game that's new. Let everyone know it's F2P for 3 months, then if you don't have an account yet, it'll become a certain price (to lessen the botters and stuff).
Then again, if people want to do RMT and nonsense, they'd just create 1,000 accounts each before the cutoff. Ugh.

I haven't read all 52 pages so I'm referring to the original post:
On many plattforms/forums there are people who "complains" about that poe is not f2p...but this is due their lack of knowledge. I always "defend" poe against those assumptions, because you don't have to spend money to get xp boosts, higher damage, better defense, or whatever..
Honestly in my personal point of view, the GGG pricing model is by far the BEST for such game. "you wanna support us? nice, buy some cool fancy cosmetic stuff and have fun".
BUT i have to admit, 4 stash tabs are really a bit too little nowadays.
I remember, when i started POE, when Act3 was the endgame. 4 Tabs where enough. I had plenty place for the currency and for the gear I don't wanted to vendor. Because of a "noobish" (or newly) point of view as a new player, I didn't had a clue what items to keep for other builds and so son. So 4 tabs where pretty soon fully used.
But these days you have splinters (a LOT of different), divnition cards, fossils, resonators, prophecies, all kind of fragments, league specific stuff here and there...and of course your generel loot/items.
I personally think that the amount of free stash tabs should be increased (to..i dont know..6? 7?)

the absolute least they could do is update fragment tabs to keep up with all the garbage you're expected to collect, but they won't because that would hurt their profits. Screenshot this post and enjoy it when they start selling Organ tabs

You missed the point boem, as usual. Neither GGG's trading app nor any other is IN THE GAME. Therefore you, a player in said game, have only one IN-GAME way to list items for searching, and that's paid tabs. That gives those who have them an advantage over those who don't. That is pay to win by the accepted definition writ large. Prior to the premium tabs, everyone had to go out of game to actually list items, or spam their sales in trade chat. With premium tabs you no longer have to go out of game to list.
Your only proving my point about ignorance, trading apps allow you to select stash tabs and put buy out prices on them.
Every item put into them or in the reference location will be put up for sale for the dedicated price.
So no, you don't need to leave the game with trading apps to list items. Similar to the premium stash tabs you need to program them once for a price range and then your good to go.
Peace,
-Boem-
Still missed it there Boe. Trading apps are third party, and not in game. The game itself gives you EXACTLY one option to list items, and it's behind a pay wall. That's pay to win, albeit very mild and moderately easy to work around. In order for paid tabs to not be p2w you would need an IN GAME way to list items that didn't cost money.
