Pick : 100% Rarity or 30% Quantity
" They are both good. Except one has diminishing returns and one doesn't. Doesn't take a genius to figure out what to do. The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

FYI, I've found too many uniques that I've to open a giveaway thread to hand out 2pages of trash uniques in local forum. With that rarity/quantity I could find 5-6 uniques for about 3-4hours playtime.
However, in those maps when killing boss tier monster, at the same base <iir iiq> I get around 7-10 rares when wearing 100% more rarity; whilst with 30% more quantity, I get noticebly less rares. The rest are all magics, which makes me wonder since rarity makes item go blue, why is that given the items dropped from boss are all non-whites, 30% quantity gives less rares< and the rest are clearly magics >? Maybe it's just RNG " Last edited by minimalistjason#6304 on Mar 20, 2013, 11:04:27 PM

Item rarity is good. (but has diminishing returns) Item quantity is good. Get enough rarity than just get all quantity. I find 60% rarity is enough. " Do you have any numbers to back this up? I'm talking specifically about 100% IIR vs 30% IIQ and how diminishing returns would affect both. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Why would you pick one against the other. It's cheap to go around 60-70% rarity. Then just go quantity. Run 100% rarity and run map bosses (67+) Run 30% quantity and run map bosses Run BOTH and you will see a difference. I'm not nerdy enough to do 10000 boss fights and post my results. Not really, when you close to max out quantity, i will see probably around 180iiq or something.
I bet you get 6-7 whites from boss, and 2-4 whites from Rares monsters. If that's the case, clearly you need to boost more rarity to get more benefit from the time you've spent on this game. <Provided that you have unlimit resource to get the best IIQ IIR> agree? " IIQ makes more weapons and armor drop, and each of those has a chance to be magic, rare, or unique. Let's say, on average, a given boss will drop 10 items, 1 of which (10%) will be rare (rare are actually rarer than that, of course, but it makes the math simple :P). The same logic applies to magic and unique items, too. 100% IIR and 0% IIQ means you would still get 10 items on average, 2 of which (20%) will be rare. 0% IIR and 100% IIQ means you would get 20 items on average, 2 of which (10%) will be rare. The reason IIQ is better, all things being equal: * It gives you more orbs and gems. IIR does nothing for these drops. * It gives you more maps. Unlike most items, even the worst roll on a normal or magic map is still worth picking up. * It gives you more chances to find 5L/6L items, base item types you want for chancing, etc. Quantity is strictly better; it is just as good as Rarity at finding Rares and Uniques, but it helps with a lot more than that. |

" Wrong. If you had cited the right patch version, you would know this, because the same patch you insulted me for not having memorized made diminishing returns apply to *both*. They're literally listed one after the other in the change log. Oh, the irony! http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/30667 " |

" Do you know why multiboxing got hot fixed? Item quantity. It's the fact that 50% per player was wayyyyy too much to run bosses. with +200% item quantity, you will get TONNES of items froma boss. When a boss dies, they literally SHOWER YOU WITH ITEMS. I bet you haven't seen a boss die and 50 items come out? Tha'ts not from rarity. That's from quantity. My point is, rarity is good, but has diminishing returns. Get enough of it then stack QUANTITY. If you don't know why quantity is so good then there is no point explaining.
