The Moral Dilemma: Key Cloning and Multiboxing.

"[Utilizing] any form of automated software in relation to your access or use of the Website, Materials or Services is prohibited." - Terms of Use

That's pretty clear.. Key cloning is automated software and thus not legal...

Why is there such a controversy? Why are some people saying that key cloning is legal?

In my opinion, it is not only against the Terms of Use, but it is also immoral. Use of keycloning software to control multiple accounts simultaneously provides an unfair advantage to those types of "power-gamers" versus the regular people who play the game "as intended." It can also breed dire consequences for the economy, as a full group (regardless of how many "players" there are) will have more drops than a solo player, effectively multiplying the income of an individual by however many clients he is operating.

Does the community find key cloning to be acceptable? GGG's stance seems pretty clearly indicated in the ToU... Is there anything being done about this growing trend?

As far as my interpretation of the ToS goes, key cloning would be a violation as that would fall under automation. However, there's nothing saying multi boxing itself is out. There's nothing saying you can't fire up 6 clients with a hand full of mules, portal them into your instance, then run through it collecting all the bonus quantity. In fact there's been several instances on the forum now where it's been made pretty clear GGG doesn't care if you do this, even though they've made clear changes in the game in an attempt to combat this strategy's effectiveness. Which is a little bit stupid if you ask me.

While I recognize the implications making it a challenge to ban or prevent multiboxing, it is against my moral compass to multibox. As a community, we should shun and ridicule those known to participate in this behavior.

While I wholly agree with your sentiments TC, the fact of the matter is, people will always try to find and make use of any advantage they could get no matter what.
The point of this post is to remove all doubt that use of key-cloning and/or any other 3rd party software that interacts with the client is against the Terms of Use.

Also, to illustrate the general disgust among the majority of the world's population regarding dishonest tactics such as multiboxing to spoof a group in order to cause an instance to scale-up.

Didn't people stop doing this after the chaos recipe nerf anyways?
Why's this relevant anymore.

I'd love to hear a dev response to see if we are ever going to get a "/players #" type command so we don't have to multibox anymore.

You already don't have to multibox. Multiboxing is your choice and my point is that you're an asshat for doing it as it is dishonest and morally reprehensible.

More loot is still more loot. Nerfing the Chaos recipe dealt with some of the negative effect on the economy that multiboxing had (while simultaneously dicking solo players),but it doesn't change the fact that someone is going to pull more loot for a multiboxed party. I don't see why GGG couldn't have put something in place that keeps multiple connections from the same IP joining the same party as opposed to fucking what was otherwise a perfectly fine means of acquiring currency in game for players. If you ask me, the new changes almost make multiboxing look MORE necessary now than before. I mean, used to be able to farm up a few Chaos now and then with a reasonable recipe. Now I'm pretty much cornered into farming for Alterations and trading them off for Chaos, which would be much more effective should I choose to multibox. They went about solving the problem all wrong. They should have just taken a stab at multiboxing directly instead of trying to beat it by altering things indirectly liek the Chaos recipe.
