Awakened suport gems are a failure

We have a total of like 130+ support gems at the moment. They only made 35 of that to be awakened gems.

For any build that cares about min/max, will try to use awakened gems, since they are improved versions with buffs like 20% more stronger.

This will only unbalance or take away options when trying to make a build. you will always prefer going that gem that now gives 60% more damage with awakened, than going with the one that dont have and can reach only 50%.

Now we should focus on 35 gems, and get as many of then to support the main skill, and try to not use the other 90+ gems.

Probably slated to make more and add them as new features for future patches.
they're a success to how GGG wants to force the gameplay. stack pure damage, forget about defense, just accept the instant death once in awhile
My problem with them is that they are powercreep for the sake of powercreep lol,no one asked for them. I can understand 21/23 gems because they have a risk inherently to them, you can lose your gem, you can make it crap quality or you can succeed and create a good gem.
It's the same problem synthesized items had, why would you ever try to double corrupt something if you could add 3 implicit to any item without risking to lose your item.

I am fine with risk/reward boosts of power, or when they add a new content that is way harder and require it. But this Plus gems doesn't have a clear reasoning behind why they exist.

No doubt its power creep, but I also think it a nod to late game chase items.

Right now there isnt really items to chase. It's a currency farm / craft heavy progression.

My belief is that 'Awakened' support gems are supposed to be indicative of the Conquerors who use/drop them. Remember, the end bosses of the Atlas are us now - we're fighting the exiles that killed the Shaper/Elder. The Awakened support gems are their support gems, the ones they used to Conquer the Atlas. It's a chase item thing, much as Darth states, but also a means of signaling that we're dealing with a different breed of boss now.

I'm willing to bet that each Conqueror will have a pool of Awakened supports that matches its general build type. We're looting their own stuff, after all. Want bow-y Awakened supports? Time to go hunt the Hunter. Looking for Big Melee? Go take on the Warlord. So on and so forth.

That's like saying headhunter invalidates all other belt choices.

While it's technically true, headhunter is rare enough that it doesn't matter.

Similarly here, your statement holds no weight until we know exactly how hard these support gems are to obtain and level up. It could be that we end up having to pay a hefty pile of ex for a single + level corrupted awakened gem.

Granted they might be easy to obtain, but I honestly doubt that.

Time will tell.

This is an assumption that it will be pure damage. What if these gems alter the other effects instead like increased area of effect or increased attack/cast speed in addition to more damage? Maybe the downsides of these gems are bigger to match the increase in power? We just don’t know at this stage.

They already showcased a few o them, they are simple more(damage, or number of projectiles, or number of attacks), there is no downsides to them outside of exp required to level up them.

I haven’t seen them yet but I’ll go look and see.

Edit: As a melee player primarily I’ll take increased damage at this point. Ooh hell yeah! Awakened brutality and melee physical!! Can’t wait to put those bad boys in.
