But I think I can better clarify, the labyrinth's level hazards and puzzles are absolutely something that belongs in an RPG, but do I think they're implemented well? They did add actual difficulty progression where Normal and Cruel lab slowly introduce features and only Uber Labyrinth's traps are really a problem since that is the only difficulty where you actually have to really deal with them- however they never really actually improved the hazard level design itself. It kind of felt like they gave up there and just minimized how often you have to encounter the traps throughout a character's life span.

Anyway, yes, I probably moved the goal posts there by saying "traps" instead of "labyrinth" as the main thing I don't consider being well done despite being conceptually suited to an RPG, but honestly, traps are basically what the Labyrinth is. Without that it is just a very long dungeon with a multi-phase boss. Dangerous moving objects are the Labyrinth's identity to me.


When people are talking about "Labyrinth is a piece of shit" or "Labyrinth is horrible content" they are usually referring to traps. This is just the way it has most frequently been.

Returning to poe in 3.27: ATROCIOUS game performance, 5/10 league and I apprently missed the loot back in the last league. The more things change the more they stay the same..
I never die to lab any more, I've been playing long enough that my knowledge makes it trivial, aside from the occasional underlevelled, undergeared uber izaro... But I only run the bare minimum to get the 8 ascendancy points for each character, because I hate it. Its a chore that needs doing. I don't even dislike the idea of traps, if they popped up more in regular content I'd be quite happy with it.

Lab is the toilet cleaning chore of PoE. some people might like cleaning toilets, and thats fine, but to suggest that someone's opinion is invalid because they don't know how to clean a toilet in the middle of a game is the comment of a moron.

"just learn to clean toilets, noob" like that makes it a lovely rewarding experience.... succeeding at a horrible thing isn't the kind of design that belongs in a game.

edit:

I quite like the idea of traps, would not say no to them in the rest of the game, its the lab that feels bad.

Labyrinth is a classic for "You will like it or you will hate it. Nothing in between".

For me, it was a pleasently fresh idee for an ARPG with a good challenge-reward rating.
It was even show-cased on confernces because of its sophisticated approach from the game design perspective.

Unfortunately, it crumbled to another source of frustation for many in this game.
Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.

People don't like cleaning toilets as a rule but they usually like their toilets clean.

Experience, happened to me until I figured it out and the game is also not designed to really do any build you want it is specifically built around min/maxing, so follow online builds by player that know what they are doing because they have been playing for a long time or die trying.

Very frustrating and a waste of all the possible passive tree/gems builds that players could have fun with.
