PoE is meaningless, quit your addiction
" " F2P game. It is created to make money, to make people addicted. PoE is in this category for 100%. Those passive aggresive in this thread are addicted for sure. Its not PoE they are addicted to, its some feeling they love more than ohter people. How I ended addiction on feelings game have woken up within me: after playing first character to lvl 100, I have jumped into Breach and it was most played time in PoE, every day from: wake up to sleep to sleep time - cca two months. Due standard lvl 100 journey I have learned how to earn currency and started to pick up only unique items and some currency. After that only Harbirnger league was league I have been playing (cca two weeks). Once you learn how to get currency without intensive playing, you will buy first mirror within week (3 days possible) and after you only get richer and richer and you have no desire to get drop or find items (item you need never drops anyway), because you simply buy them and addiction to this feeling game creates is gone. One part of PoE "fun" is starvation and greed combination. PoE was never fun (move, fire, move, fire), it was always about trying out builds and beat enemies in more attractive way - almost like with Dark Souls - hard boss, good relief and nice sense of achievement when boss was defeated. From those times I am playing PoE from time to time few hours or a week per month. But definitely PoE is F2P and addiction is part of game. Good game or book ends. PoE like many others MMO wants to be played forever. Incompletiion or missing something is part of those games. Last edited by Rexeos#3429 on Oct 26, 2019, 4:16:54 AM

" PoE has a meaning, you're just not strong enough to find it. |

" The thing with arpg's is: people that play these types of games like the type of gameplay. Adding other game types, like synthesis did will not go over well(especially with how clunky it was). Players that play arpg's like killing monsters by the dozens, and gearing towards doing it faster and better. It is great that you found something more meaningfull than PoE. Also not everyone that plays PoE is addicted. If you were, than it is a good thing you broke free from it. Enjoy whatever you enjoy! |

The addictive parts are to keep the lights on and get something back for all the work the devs and everyone supporting their game do, It's just how the real world works.. surprise!
This game has plenty to offer without every spending any money or following trends on the meta every patch. Not meaningless or an addiction outside of MTX Store(the loot boxes are bullshit i'd agree) but outside of that having an awesome skill tree with tons of items to customize your build and play with is addictive for the best reasons possible and that's why IM still playing this game. Would love to see any game that has this level of customization period and even if such a game exists it would likely be pay to win as most every decent rpg these days is monetized to hell and back.. We don't have to pay for expansions or anything outside of Tabs which you can easily live without if you are a discerning user and use one of the several available third party trade tools that you won't get banned for using(last i checked) Innocence forgives you Last edited by SilentSymphony#3358 on Oct 26, 2019, 6:04:28 AM

" Making a claim that people like different things and that not everyone is addicted is a relativistic argument - you surely don't think that the statements in this thread are absolute? Everyone believes that there are people who play 1 hour per day, but this is a rarity - just look at the steam reviews, it's horrifying. So you essentially said nothing in that aspect. People should not always enjoy whatever they enjoy - compulsive gaming especially is bound to doom us as human beings because of our biological and pathological features - as an example a person will eventually feel lonely. Is it acceptable for us to let our fellow human beings become these walking meat machines of depression? I don't think so! " What a post! A stand-out even in the Path of Exile community on how one bends their own beliefs-system in an attempt to have coherence. What you are practicing here is strong cognitive distortion. You have a belief that Path of Exile is good and you know that it induces addiction which is bad, so in order to have a positive belief about Path of Exile, you make the statement of the whole world functioning like that. BUT! Surprise - the world does not work like that! Surprise, almost everything which is exercised in moderation brings a lot more healthier results for every party long term and is a strategy for most of the successful entites in the world. Then you continue on making false equivalence with other games, as if GGG not being literally the devils themselves makes them good? Not at all! They create gambling compulsion, neurologically bombard you to dump your girlfriend and quit your job to play the stupid game but at least they are not selling expansion packs so in conclusion Path of Exile is a game with good-willed developers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B2MLMLtdM0

" Your opening post makes you sound like you want everyone to share your wanky opinion. I'll never be able to understand people like you. There are many people who love this game for what it is. There have been massive improvements since day 1, and the future looks bright for PoE. The only meaningless thing here is your thread. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

" Be honest, who actually wants to read threads like this? He's unhappy with the game, okay. Why does he want others to leave with him? Just lack of confidence or does he crave affirmation that desperatly? Whichever it is, it's pointless. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge. " cool story skipping over the below part of my post " I'm heavily against the boxes as they are literal gambling and i've seen them literally destroy peoples lives in other games like ESO, Imagine being homeless because you just had to get that pink unicorn mount.. but if the boxes were gone? Lol you could hardly call POE predatory and don't pretend the servers we play on are free nor do the developers working on continued updates work for free. I've played multiple subscription only MMORPG and i still had to buy all the expansions AND had to pay extra for stupid cosmetic crap, Yeah POE is actually outside of the loot boxes a pretty damned reasonable game considering what it costs you to enjoy it which is literally NOTHING but time. [sarcasm]Damn GGG you are so evil allowing me to play your game for free and giving me full access to all content outside of premium tab trade features which even if i don't have you allow me to use third party apps to bypass it without banning me, DAMN YOU GGG![/sarcasm] Innocence forgives you

" I agree with everything said, although I'd reason the boxes are a necessary evil for GGG to monetize the game. They invest heavily on each league and put that money into growth to deliver better content, the money's gotta come from somewhere. Doing my part in buying the 2 big season-specific supporter packs every season (that's what, 33€ / month?). Not buying boxes, tho.
