Why did everyone hate Synthesis?

I still miss the memory Nexus, it was so nice when all the pieces fit
Meta = cattle

I happened to make the exact wrong builds for that league. Projectiles were king; armageddon brand and bladefall traps did not work very well to clear synth maps (or any maps, really). If I had gone with the Winter Orb meta I’d probably have enjoyed it more.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

You are not fooling anyone.

For me, synthesis was complex far beyond the point where it was fun to engage with it. As one example, the requirements for mixing and matching items were fine-grained enough that it was annoying to store and keep track of items that were candidates for synthesis. Also, the RNG associated with zone decay was frustrating, at times, because it sharply narrowed the range of builds that could be successfully played.

If the various mechanics are streamlined and the different synthesis UIs are simplified and made intuitive, along with the mechanics, then it could be fun in the future.

Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?
Well, the start of the league (for me) ruined it - not knowing what the heck was going on. Finally about a week in ZizzyD was force fed info from Chris and made a video explaining much of the mechanic.

For me, Chris wanting people to figure out stuff on their own - while a noble idea I continue to believe is a huge mistake in POE. That first week can make or break a league.

Anyway, Synthesis.....I can totally see how some folks loved it - the puzzle solver types if you will or the power gamers who figured out how to "abuse" the system. Frankly I would have probably really liked the league if it had been more intuitive and explained.

Synthesis was the best example of a great idea with a terrible execution. The core concept was really simple and engaging, but the way they implemented it was just frustrating for the player.

Before all the tweaks and bugfixes, getting a successful nexus run was a nightmare. Getting the right pieces was bad and there was also a huge chance of losing your progress to: a random island spawn, being unable to loot chests, losing instantly to a over-agressive decay, dying to projectiles 4 screens away from you, getting a boss with mods that made him unfightable, having to access a third party site (that had to datamine information) to know what synthesis items were useful for what and where 99,9% of them were useless. All these just generated frustration, which is death to fun (the game objective).

Combine this with a reduction of map drops (which screwed to people that didn`t wanted to do the league mechanic but wanted to just play the game) and you create a failure of league.

In my opinion if they had not changed the map drops, made the decay slower and passable by all mobility skills, allowed a bigger storage of pieces, allowed piece rotation, removed some of the bosses problematic affixes and made the synthesizer full random (as in even crap could give a good result at a worse ratio) we would had a league as successful as delve was.

And i agree with the complete removal of synt items, their powercreep potential was way too high for the game. But i think fractured items were fun and could be revised.
Damn. I took a 7mo break after Betrayal lol had no idea this would arguably top that as most disliked league.

Less about the topic, but also sad to see so many others having Intervention lag. I though it was something I might be able to remedy, but hell if it's just bad implementation.. that sucks.. because I need that additional curse mod lol sad.
1. Map drops were bad and centered around having to do the synthesis content

2. Some people didn't like the memory map but were forced to use it because of 1.

3. Lots of bugs, crashes and things not working like synthesis mods
and when they did started working doing things like cortex was bad

4. The bosses were absolutely broken having these 1 shot death rays and being able to have ridiculous mods

5. it takes a lot of time and effort to get the bosses/cortex Edit: entirely based on RNG and having to constantly go to memory map from hideout to check if something happened + actually running 1 zone to update it

6. Most of the pieces were useless for making a path
So not being able to rotate the pieces or having more influence on what kind of shape you get would have been good

7. The Synthesizer was pretty much useless for newbies since they would only get useless items

8. Implicit crafting was locked behind massive paywall and most players didn't know the correct prices of items or didn't bother to sell them

9. The amount of mods and implicits was so ridiculous that hardly anyone knew what was going on

10. Memory zones collapsing on you without even getting a chance to reach the end

11. Not being able to trade or zone out properly in memory map.
You would fear to lose your progress and having to start all over again
or the buyer would end up in your memory zone being unable to leave xD

12. It took the joy out of encountering zana since you would only get a memory piece of shit instead of a free map

13. Dropes were bad really bad. The bosses would often drops almost nothing. Some of the zones were slightly rewarding but only under certain conditions

14. After they remade the memory stabilizers the maximum amount of mods was quickly reached which also made farming those memory chains kinda boring and pointless

15. The mobs were shooting a ridiculous amount of projectiles which was really hard to tank

I think if the synthesis content wasn't tied to maps completely and existed as an optional thing for players to do it could be nice
Like the current master missions

What if you just have a chance to get a memory piece for defeating the map boss or something like that and you can rotate the pieces

There would only be an L-piece, straight-piece, 3-piece and 4-piece making things a lot easier.
Need more brains, exile?

Synth was amazing after they basicly reworked it after a month, yeah the first month sucked but after it was one of my favorite leagues ever.
