Why did everyone hate Synthesis?

And I really hope Blight goes core, not in maps

I love Blight league, and hope Blight goes core in some form or another, but as you say; not in maps. The content is perfect as a "choice" for people wanting to engage in it, without feeling they're missing out if they don't. So add Blight encounters to Delve and the temple, while give Zana the chance to sell Blighted maps, as well as the chance of giving a blighted map as a six-portal mission. Could also add it as a Zana mod and a sextant mod.

I would be happy with that.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
Didn't particularly like either Synthesis or Blight... but they're optional. You can ignore them completely and play the game. So, why should I "hate". I don't.

I do think the game is suffering from bloat though.
I not even know to connect those map it order reach far map.

whether i am stupid or the synthesis make me stupid
path of crafting league.

path of spreadsheet league.

= synthesis.

figure it out some people like spreadsheets.

I will say 1 thing positive about synthesis tho, the voice acting the lil bit of lore behind it was very good.
"Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."

Once you break the cycle of fear no angels or demons can whisper you their sweet nothing words.

poe0.2/10. Nuff said.
The worst things about synthesis starting with the worst of the worst:

Syndicate random and mandatory and Supreme lag from intervention. This singlehandedly caused most people to stop playing.

Map drop rates were almost 0 to force people to spam synthesis.

Synthesis blue goo mechanics completly made several builds useless and was generally stupid and poorly paced. For example, shield charge and whirling blades could not cross a thin line of blue goo.

Synthesis initially had broken board mechanics, was unrewarding, and the blue goo was even worse.

Even at best, synthesis board was clunky and exhausting to use.

Synthesis items were incredibly stupid in their rarity for decent ones and the datamined recipes were necessary. Fractured items were far better than synthesized items, but still overwhelmingly junk due to rarity of decent rolls.

I hate blight more than Synthesis. I realy liked synthesis after they buffed rewards from nodes.

I hate the fact that blight is so anti melee as it comes because that is what I realy enjoy playing.

Egregious powercreep, and having to play 4D chess in order to actually use the league mechanic.

I'm glad that fractured items were permanently axed, it kills all item base diversity when you can have an item with its implicits almost as strong as its explicits.

I'll repeat myself from some time ago; as someone who loved synthesising items and made bank off of it, I know full well that it needed to die. It's just too, damn, strong.

(And yeah the memory mechanic was full on brain hurt.)

The heart of all GGG's failed leagues (from a majority of players perspective) is always:

1. Failed QoP. Synthesis killed frame rates (so what else is new).
2. Betrayal was now in the core and Syndicate ambush (pop up portal)
just froze PoE client and next screen was "you are dead". That's total shit.
I have an SSD and the Betrayal ambush was screen freezing me to death too.
3. Too complicated coupled with the same old way too many bugs. Took GGG most of
the league to smooth out and even then it was still laggy memory runs.
4. Synthesizer required too many items to be saved to then throw into it coupled
with the normal low rng factor for anything good so tons of work for few rewards.

It always comes down to 2 main factors:
1. Can I play smoothly? Is QoP ok?
2. Are the rewards (output) worth the time to play the league mechanic (input).

GGG is failing on both counts this year for me. I live in SW Florida so I'm using either the WDC or Dallas realms which means I'm stuck coming in from Miami NAP either through the Atlanta to WDC links of Networklayer (WDC realm) or the Houston to Dallas links of Networklayer (Dallas realm). Both Internet paths for me are problematic many times of the week. Example, I tried to play back on October 11th (Friday evening) and on my very first low level map I was DC'ed out of the WDC realm 3 times. Switched to the Dallas realm and it too was bad and DC'ed me out 3 more times. That was a 1 and done that evening awful experience. Each and every time this happens and I run WinMTR to check, the HOPS that have Networklayer in the name are showing packet loss. The routers/switches at these Internet junctions are just overloaded and can't handle the data flow so packets are lost which totally wrecks PoE as it can't tolerate any packet loss at all.

Final nail in my PoE playing coffin is that as a filthy casual player I only play about 20 hours a week and I'm not going to play much (or at all) if the rewards for time spent grinding aren't there. GGG always has this crazy thinking that if rewards are better then players will get to their goals too fast and quit (I got a level 100 build and some BiS gear so I'm done playing forever). So GGG errors on the side of too few rewards and starves us out. That happened in Synthesis and now again in Blight. GGG does better on the time/rewards balance in one league (Legion was pretty good) and then goes right back to starving us out again in Blight.

Chris says there will be no Flashback in 3rd month of Blight as GGG has patch 3.9.0 to be a major expansion. We will soon find out how "major" it is and whether (on Dec. 6th) the QoP and time/rewards will be a good balance. I understand that "grind" is a fundamental part of this arpg/shooter (Whimseyshire this ain't), but if the rewards aren't good enough (I accept the fact that too much too fast is bad for player retention but too little too long is even worse) then I'll stop chasing the carrot and get off the PoE merry-go-round soon in any challenge league which translates to my continued boycotting of any mtx.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

In my case, although my "character" was immune to Betrayal mechanic mentioned above, Shitthesis for good "healed" me of PoE. After exactly 17 days of league I uninstalled this game and never played it again. What's more, after some time I realized how much time and life this think is stealing and wasting, thanks to which PoE I will be present solely on its forum, until a "forum tab" is needed to comment.

Wowa! I stopped all entertainment on PC thanks to Bestiary! All that I do now is study/research, workout, work and share my juices with the ladies.
For me the story was that the game was shit and some why there were so many people suddenly moaning how they've wasted their whole life on this game and/or now regret wasting their thousands of hours on the game with no hope on the horizon.
You tell one 30 year old baldie to shut up and not moan on global chat, and another appears! I had never seen before such phenomena of mass despair in my environment. This isn't exclusive to Path of Exile but here it's truly hard to ignore it due to the density.

Now my life is awesome and lacking of nothing, one would say a dream for the majority, but I still went out of my comfort zone and inquired - now it has been my main subject of research for thousands of hours with the hope of people living more in the real than the virtual again one day!

Was it really worse than Blight — something that barely even functions?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

omg that's hilarious

Blight, a month in, is not a spectacularly rewarding league, but it is one of the more "functional" leagues GGG has put out in the past year. The vast majority of the bugs are fixed. Occasionally (I haven't had it happen in the past 10 blighted maps, personally), a portal spawns too close to your pump. That is the actual remainder of what should be called bugs in the league.

Synthesis took 2 months to even fix half of the bugs, and by league end there were 3 absolutely awful bugs left that GGG showed no signs of wanting to improve on. Not to mention how the entire league structure was just... painful to play, and how the ultimate rewards via synthesized items were the most insanely unfair "the rich get richer" mechanics that this game has ever seen.

Edit: With that said, I like the content itself, and the new Zana synthesis boss maps are fucking A+ content. I have absolutely no complaints about the way synthesis was integrated.
