Why is GGG allowing "one shot" monsters?
|
This is a great example of "Survivors Paradox". If PoE was a game that had no dangerous mobs, no threats to a character, we wouldn't be here talking about it at all. The game wouldn't be here 7 years after its origin. We would have gotten over it in the first few months and gone on to more interesting games.
We're here answering your question specifically because of features like the one you're against. |

" I can't answer that, as I've never been on-shot in my six years of playing this game in an area without somewhat dangerous multipliers - or by very dangerous mobs who's supposed to one-shot you by telegraphed attacks/spells - or because of WAY under tuned defenses. Edit: Oh, and I supposed by the hands of over tuned league mechanics that got nerfed afterwards. Hell, I'm playing a Raider this league - with less than 5500 life and I have been one-shot once - by one of those ranged Legion dudes - in a pretty juiced up red map. Which is TOTALLY OK, as I have NO mitigation other than evasion and dodge. I've also seen streamers get one-shot with NO defense AT ALL. Should those characters be immune to one-shots too? But I am aware that some of the unique guys in Blighted maps seems a little bit over-tuned. But I'm also aware of the fact that in A LOT of cases, a one-shot isn't a one-shot. My point? It's EXTREMELY hard to balance, with 923847 different layers of defense and 983709 sources of damage. The ONLY way to make EVERY character immune to one-shot, would be to scale monster damage based on YOUR health. And THAT is a slippery slope I hope GGG stay away from. (And yes, those were numbers out of my ass for dramatic effect) Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Sep 23, 2019, 4:17:30 PM

" Really? Because I don't get one shot by her on any of my characters, and I tend to build some pretty yolo SC characters. Sorry man but your problems come from a lack of understanding of the game, not the game being unfair. |
|
" Maybe because the monster deals elemental damage? |

release a ton of Legion rares--> cry on forums
and that Ziz rip, well he did a multiprojectile (+lot of damagemods) map and paid the prize d:-D*

they could make the logout macro illegal and then tweak downwards :)
i believe the reason there are cheap thrills in the game is because they allow logout macro. Last edited by teksuoPOE#2987 on Sep 23, 2019, 7:35:11 PM

Let's be honest here... is it a one shot effect on a map with no mods? So many more effects become "one shot" when the map has "monsters deal 100% of damage as extra lightning damage" and "monsters deal 100% of damage as extra cold damage" and STILL people are upset that something one shot them.... when monsters are doing triple damage minimum....
Also "one shot monsters" implies it would be a one shot for all builds. If there was a common monster that one shot every build with an attack/spell that you could't react to and wasn't telegraphed there would be issues. Doing Aul on depth 1000 with savage mods and no movement skill wouldn't be an issue with the game if it one shot you. |

Maraketh archers on damage mod maps with +2 projectiles can shotgun you for 30k damage through fortify and 75% physical resist. It's just bad game design.

" It's easy to "avoid" getting one shot by that archer if you avoided releasing them, which appears to be the case given your challenge progression in legion. For example, not once did you release all monsters and chest for a single faction. Now that's perfectly fine if you're playing it safe - but it doesn't give you the right to get condescending towards another player because they chose to pursue a challenge that's obviously more risky. Additionally, you completed 3 out of 30 red maps with 8 mods. Those red 8 mods maps are typically the ones far more likely to have archers with increased damage along with larger pack sizes - meaning more incoming damage at once. Sure, one could follow your lead and avoid popping the monolith or be extremely selective in what they release. But for those attempting to complete the majority of challenges, that's fairly wasteful given the grind to complete them as is. Ultimately, my point is this: Why do you feel the need to berate a fellow player? "One-shot mechanics" have been heavily utilized in PoE because genre limitations make it very difficult to increase difficulty or introduce "challenge". At this point the two mainstays have been to increase enemy damage or enemy health (or both). Yep, totally over league play.

First of, oneshots are pure bullshit and should be removed from the game. Not to mention they are more and more frequent, and I'm not even talking about OFFSCREEN oneshots, which obviously you can't avoid.
Second, logout macro should result in perma IP-ban. When you play HC, you know the risks. If you can't accept the risk of getting killed and losing your char, just go play SC. Period. Last edited by PledgeOfDeath#5084 on Mar 5, 2020, 7:08:46 PM
