Mirrors and scam: Add a mirror service in town

I am aware that the official stance is that if you get scammed after having agreed to trade terms with a random, giving your mirror so that he may mirror his item, then you knew the risks of trusting a random and the joke is on you.

However this serves no good purpose except to protect the scammers. There are no other benefits for any other players.

Now i am guessing GGG does not want to track chats, and I also recall reading that GGG did not wish to flood the economy by replacing items lost to scams, and you cannot reliably remove the scammed items from traders unless they left it untouched on the same account.

One thing that you can be sure about, is that someone out there is willing to scam if they get items that can lure people in, and the inexperienced trader, which is the main target in the first place, will suffer greatly since from their inexperience one may assume they are not rich - and the loss of a mirror will probably cause them to leave the game or at least take a very long break.

Someone will eventually become scammed while attempting to have an item mirrored, having no way to know if the seller was trustworthy, unless someone already took the risk and can report in a thread that the seller is, yet, that may be just another account of the scammer.

I am not sure what should be done, i just want to say that making a breeding ground for scammers does not benefit anyone, least of all GGG. When you have your account "hacked", chances are that it was your own fault due to sloppiness of unique and strong passwords, but when being mirror scammed by an experienced scammer you cannot protect yourself if he acts like an honest person.

Normal trades are safe in the way that you can see the offer, and as such know what you are accepting beforehand, plus a few additional things such as having to mouseover before you can trade etc.

Maybe it would be possible to create a "mirror service" in a town, so that there is space for a mirror, the item, and any possible fee, and it will all execute with no risk involved.

People say use a third party middleman, but does GGG really want to consume man-power by having people do this for others? That is what you are in essence suggesting since that is the only source of a reliable middleman. I say add a mirroring service npc because the mirror process bypasses the protective trade mechanisms. It's basically like trading with someone by dropping your items on the ground and hoping their intentions are good.

After the mirror service being added, only chromatics can be scammed off people.

You are saying it is great to betray someones trust, by cheating them, costing them time and resources and that it should be a greater part of this game?

Not simply fooling them to trade you more than they should, but by not doing as you agreed to do? :)

If GGG was like you i don't think they would add mouseover protection to trades, hell, why even have a trade window, you might as well just drop your loots on the ground.

Well I should have phrased small fee differently.
Some people ask 5 exalts + for a mirror service.

Also, you're just being a massive hypocrite by saying that in general.
It's like saying you've never dozed off a little or failed to pay proper attention to something. Every human has done that in their life, and for some it has happened while trading which might have resulted in them getting scammed.
