Addressing Toxicity and Elitism Before League Launch
" Just because I or people like me don't have patience for new players it doesnt mean we are toxic. We just don't like their "it takes few seconds to google it" questions ;) See problem solved. We just eliminated all toxicity. People are not toxic they simply don't have patience. YUPI ^^ Last edited by karoollll2534#2874 on Sep 4, 2019, 12:55:57 PM

Just stating, the game is specifically designed NOT to be noob friendly.
It took me 3 years to master this game and learn the qwerks, how can anyone expect the community to be equal and treated equal to one another? That's like asking Bill Gates to have a discussion about Windows mechanics with someone who just used a computer for the first time. There is going to be a communication problem here. PoE is NOT designed for new players. It is designed to continually fall in love over and over with the difficulty and mastery it takes to be understand and fully play the game for what it is. This IS the reason everyone STILL PLAYS poe. If it was more easily understood, people would get bored and leave. |

Calling out people for being toxic and elitist is, in and of itself, toxic and elitist.
Wrap your minds around that one, and you'll be well on your way to enlightenment. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming... |

How do you address toxicity in global chat?
First off written communication has no voice inflection so somebody's joke could easily be another person's insult. In addition, chat is anonymous. How many anon communication platforms do you know of that don't have some form of toxicity? Hello youtube chat, youtube comments, twitter, twitch chat? There is no escape from toxicity in a game where knowledge is the most valuable commodity. |

A lot of the problem with global chat in terms of interaction with new players, is that there is no way a player is supposed to know that they shouldn't use global chat to get help until they've already asked a question and received harsh responses. It's a vicious cycle of people expecting new players to already know to google something and new players not realizing that people don't like answering questions.
It's also a symptom of a game being successful with a large amount of players that have no reason to be anything but apathetic to each other. More niche games with lower player base populations tend to have players that are more welcoming and grateful that somebody is playing their preferred game. |

I remember when I started to play and didnt ask a single thing after reading global chat and just started to do what literally tencentggg tells you to.. use 3rd websites for all your questions, that's how I somehow learn the basics also by making mistakes too it's important to make mistakes in order to gain experience..
"Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."
Once you break the cycle of fear no angels or demons can whisper you their sweet nothing words. poe0.2/10. Nuff said. |
