PoE should look at D2 Median XL as an example for reasons to kill bosses
First of all imo bosses should be longer mechanical fights (minus the inv phases). I mean most bosses have a fraction of the hp red beasts have
So the endgame for Median was basically farming bosses for charms. But also charms had a small variation of stats but just enough so that it was worth farming for more until u had that perfect roll. On top of that they also had a 2% chance to drop a trophy that could slightly buff said charm. I think poe has a ton of mechanics to add something like that to all bosses. And items could vary from map tier, to how long the boss fight really is. For example since Blinding Light Innocence and Kitava take far longer to kill they should have the better items , where as bosses that take 20 sec to farm should have the less interesting ones. I would like it if bosses AND mobs had more HP. Maybe 1 tier higher--White mobs buffed to blue, blue buffed to yellow, yellow buffed to yellow beast etc.
It would give incentive to play as a party again like the old days. Also we need Uber Tristram... But instead of stat charms, maybe add a interesting mechanic. sort of like helm enchants. And while we're at it - Secret Rhoa level :) |

In current PoE the boss fight would need to look like something from Touho Project and the boss would need to have 99% damage taken reduction (or quadrilions of HP) for the fight to be challenging.

No, they don't have to drag boss fights any longer. When GGG introduced Master Toxicist in the Pathfinder tree I created an entire build around it. And killing off red beasts already takes too much time (with an optimized 20/20 6-link) for a build that is clearly balanced. (Actually I advice their test team to use my char on the test servers to check balance mechanics in the future). GGG wants players to play PoE with balanced builds not balance the game around overpowered builds.
I always kill the map boss as they drop the most items and have the highest probability to drop maps. So the incentive is already there to be honest. Edit: Also, Kitava is a badly designed boss that doesn't belong into PoE. The design clearly came from Diablo 3 and is a typical boss you engage in a console game. Absolutely hate that fight. Killing red beast takes 5 seconds at most. This is to much for you? Incentive to kill map bosses? They dissappear faster than I even can use all my "buffs".
PoE needs bosses with actual huge life pool instead stupid immunity phases. Current "hardest" boss fight in the PoE last 70 seconds in which 50 of those is just dodging while waiting for end of immunity phase... |

" i didn`t say 5sec is too much. i said it's lame having many rares having more hp than bosses. kinda like incursion rares have more hp than architects |

The problem with PoE is that there's too great a difference between "good enough" and "really good" in terms of character power. If you make bosses hard for the "really good" characters, you lose the interest of those that simply want to play "good enough" characters. On the flip side, you make things based on "good enough" and the people who play "really good" characters complain that they don't have a challenge.
The problem needs to be solved at that level. The gap between the haves and the have-nots needs to shrink before you start talking about how content should be balanced. |

" What the? Not even Diablo 3 has a boss as bad as Kitava. The closest would be Diablo in Act 4 but even he has better mechanics and is deadlier then Kitava will ever be. To be honest Bosses need to last longer and have more Interesting mechanics. 99% of the bosses in this game die as fast as a random Rare Mob and drop only slightly better Loot. I would love for GGG to introduce more "enrage" mechanics as they did for the Rhoa Boss on Arid Lake (and his skeleton brother). This fight full enraged still isnt really hard BUT its leagues above the "normal" Rhoa boss fight you would get without breaking the Eggs. And the difficulty is OPTIONAL. So people that want to play the "good enough" Builds as Shagsbeared said beautifully can decide to Ignore the enrage. |
