I think GGG is going in the wrong direction the pacing of the game, aoe => an open discussion
I'm doing an introspection of all these years playing PoE and noticed the power creeping of skills lately, one shot, problem with boss rewards , etc etc
I remember back then having to choose btw single target or aoe. I remember when putting conc effect and my aoe was shit but my dmg through the roof, I had to make choice as what to sacrifice or having 2 setup: not anymore. I feel like now most skills have it all and those that dont, well the community try to push GGG so they get the same treatments. But is that really the best direction ? The game is also becoming faster and faster with gazillion of loot pretty much useless that we need filters to manage. We kill so fast that we need to die as fast... and most solution that comes up is make all skills equals and go as fast... ? You know this reflect a real life crisis we have in modern society now where people feels like time is running out, we are bombed with gazillion of informations every day, instant gratification, anxiety is one of the major problem because everything is focused on performance and when something slow us down or our society the only solution that people makes up is to go faster ... when the real one is that we need to slow down. I feel that: -AoE is too easy to get. -AoE skills does too much damage. -There is skills that are mechanically better than others no matter what but its hard to buff other skills without homogeneising them because of one favored playstyle. -There is too much loot that are useless that crafting is now too good. -There less choice , I can have it all pratically (aoe and dmg) Honestly I would be in favor of slowing down the game but its would need a huge rebalance of every numbers in the game (dmg in and out, monster life, regen, leech, etc etc) as much as the loots, etc , etc. So what are your thought ? I no longer remember the original state of game as I learned to check the good theory crafters early on how to abuse everything in the game.
Now it is more accessible? Sure I switch games whenever i do not feel like playing fast pace arcade trading simulator like PoE. I might not invest as much time to PoE so I won't get the good results from grinding my teeth off but my sanity improved a lot (but take opinion of insane person seriously) PoE won't change. They might throw some hurdles on us for sake of server stability, but poe won't become slower by intention. I represent only myself, my own thought and believes. I am individual, not a representative of the community.
I am not speaking on behalf of someone else and I don't get offended by things that have nothing to do with me. 3.13 was the golden age. |

I been advocating for a slower, more deliberate and challenging pace for years. Less but better loot and mobs would make for a far better game.

aoe is fine right now (atleast for a lot of melee skills) compared to proj skills its still weaker or goes even at best

AOE dmg is fine what we reall need is AOE-loot. I still have to run a few screen in every direction after each big boom to pick up my loot that's soooo last season. ^^

" I feel that GGG rewards faster, loot-based gameplay because those are the types of people more willing to spend money on MTX. The more impulsive a person is the more willing they are to put down cash on vanity items, and more likely they are to want instant gratification gameplay. Maybe, that's just the type of player GGG has to cater to make earnings each league. I mean I_NO is a pretty good example of this. Who knows how much money she spends on the game, (at least over 1000$) and she's pretty much zoom-zoom. Can't fault GGG for giving her what she wants. (⌐■_■)

"That's probably true only because most people who wanted a slower playstyle already left the game. In turn, GGG caters to the feedback they get from the current players, who are mostly in favor of faster playstyle. It's an infinite feedback loop. @ the topic: A lot of this faster playstyle is coming from the power creep over the years, and it's something that needs to be addressed. Every game I've played that didn't try fixing the power creep problems ended up collapsing. It always got to the point where the fundamental aspects of those games turned into broken systems. Hell, even games that are trying to fight back power creep are still struggling to maintain their core gameplay. Just look at WoW. |
