Is Legion GGG's best league to date?

Best league? Not even close. Not even in TOP3.
I feel like it coming AFTER synthesis has an impact on the decision (don't look at my signature I've been using for 3 months now)

Very close to best league! It's in the top tier for sure.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!
Nothing beats Delve.
In a vacuum the league mechanic is fun, although I think I liked synthesis best as a pure mechanic.

Add in all the changes and improvements, item re-balances and everything else that came with legion, and yea it's my #1 currently.
Rebalances? Improvements???

No, and no. How many Breach copies have they made so far? How long before it gets old? At least Legion has some originality in the design of its Timeless jewels though, which I do like.

That said, I don't mind if they alternate between simple and complex leagues. So long as said simple league isn't a pure clearspeed fest like this one. Even Breach was better on that count, as was Abyss. Beyond a point, there wasn't much to be gained from higher speed in Breach or Abyss, but Legion just scales like crazy with it. This league is by far the most clearspeed centric league GGG has ever made, competing for the top spot with leagues like Rampage and even Incursion. And personally I really don't like that.

As for Synthesis, you could engage with it as just an extra encounter with some additional mobs in maps if you wanted to, so it could have been treated as a simple league. The complex mechanics were there only if you wanted to engage with them. What you like about Legion now is that you're rewarded for not thinking much, whereas in Synthesis you could still have engaged mindlessly, just wouldn't have reaped the maximum rewards from the league for doing so. Synthesis also gave us Fractured items, which arguably did more for making crafting accessible than anything they've ever introduced before or since, including Fossils.

Not that Synthesis was good. The idea was fine, the execution atrocious. The Synthesizer was badly designed on several levels (and I've previously suggested some things they could've done to make it bearable). The Synthesis map was headache inducing on release, although it did get better after the 3-week patch overhauled it. The boss encounters went from too easy to ridiculous over the course of some frankly laughable balancing shenanigans. And so on.

All that said, I'd certainly be up for them polishing it up and returning it to the game at some point. At the very least, I'd like Fractured items back (even just as regular drops), even sans the Synthesizer. If Legion goes core, I wouldn't mind them replacing Breach with it (we don't need Breach AND Legion AND Abyss all in the core game - and Abyss is too fundamental by now thanks to Abyss jewels and belts, unless those are made regular drops). Toss in Torment there for the chopping block, since no one cares for Torment (even if this patch improved them a bit).

I'm doing everything, from temple to delve.. my sulphite in fact comes back faster than in synthesis..

enjoying legion as well so much..

very happy with it.

poe0.2/10. Nuff said.
Anyway, while my previous comment defended Synthesis (as an idea), that isn't to say it was my favorite. That title would go to Betrayal (yes, without counting the other leagues we got with it), as well as Legacy (albeit Legacy is kinda an unfair comparison since it was a 'choose-your-own-league'). The only issue I had with Betrayal is how profitable it was to do it in low level areas, which is ALSO a problem in this league (and wasn't in Synthesis). And, of course, the atrocious way they've incorporated it into the core game afterwards.

But yeah, I stand by what I said about this league not being my thing. Simple is fine (even if I hope not all leagues are simple), but clearspeed-fest is not. And you only need to see the lopsided skill distribution to see how bad it is. Cyclone, ED and Ice Nova may be strong skills, but they're hardly the only good skills. They're as dominant as they are this league precisely because of the leagues' design.

Legion is really enjoyable to me. Great league but not the best. Nemesis and Invasion tied for first. Legion is up there.
