Why doesnt the game pause while you are in a menu?
"The point of the game being multiplayer is that your friends can join. Why would I care that some people might have their friends join a game while it's paused? Especially if the portal scroll is such a good alternative anyway, and that's readily available with people still being able to join? "Then don't do it? Having all your party members refuse to leave town, or all running around naked using Glacial Hammer with a white driftwood club, could suck too, but the game still lets them, as it should. Don't play with trolls, problem solved. Although personally I'd suggest it be made a party option like loot allocation, so people can choose to make it unavailable in multiplayer if they want to. "I didn't say anything about a boss battle. Bizarre world we're in where players of a videogame apparently need to "justify" liking the availability of a pause function, something which has been common in videogames since year dot. "Portal scroll can result in instance loss from the timer (which is the opposite of paused: it starts when you leave), and in maps uses one of your limited amount of exits. |

wouldn't be that revolutionary ; the lowly diablo3 does this when youre alone in your game.

This is bait right?
Are you seriously asking why you can't pause an online game, especially one with an engine as notoriously bad as PoE? Souls along a conduit of blood, from one vessel to the next.

" YES it does. play the game alone and you will see. you press ESC and game pauses. you're in a rift, it pause. timer stops. i can't understand why ppl are just being haters, when all this tread is asking for is a pause on an instance, when nobody else is in there. if you can do without, good for you. adding a pause doesn't take that away from you, you could still play the way you feel is right. but then others will actually enjoy the game more if they also have the option they like. |

" No...its not. The only online games with a pause function have usually be shooters and its usually only in championship/league play, or unless both teams agree to it by vote system. NONE of the Diablo gmaes had a pause function, you had to go back to town, or stand there and run the chance the mobs might find you. NO mmo has had a pause function. There might be SOME form of pause for a few games, but its usually as I stated above, so, sadly, in this particular case, you are gravely mistaken. |

First part is wrong, because playing solo in D3 gives the pause, if you press escape. Second part is right, as soon you play with others, there cannot be pause, because, they would also have to pause. But for solo it was a good way to reduce rubber bends or lagging in Greater Rifts. |

"Oh please. Enjoying moving the goalposts? The claim I was responding to was simply "Online games don't pause". That statement is incorrect if even one online game has pause. If you're unhappy with how broad your statement was, I totally get that, but changing it after the fact doesn't retroactively make my response "gravely mistaken". Blizzard's RTSs (Warcraft, Starcraft) have pause. Probably lots of other similar games do too, but I'm not much of an online player, so I wouldn't know. Diablo 3 has pause. Valve's FPSs have pause, though as you say, it needs to be enabled on the server. Dota 2, that tiny unpopular game, has pause for anyone. Pause that needs to be enabled on the server (whether by the admin or by voting), far from being some crazy outlier, is actually a pretty good analogue of what I suggested should be added in POE. If you make it a party option, people who don't want to have to deal with others potentially pausing can leave it disabled, but it should be enabled while playing alone, because in that case I am the one in charge of the 'party' at all times and I cannot be bothering anyone else. |

" I don't know what fucking game you're playing but do this: Go into a map, engage some mobs and hit ESC. Guess what happens...That's right, you will die. |

Pausing allows you time to consider your situation that you aren't otherwise afforded without a cost (at the least, a portal).
It certainly wouldn't be without impact on the game to simply "add pause" in single player instances. Whether you believe the cost is worth the gain is subjective, but it definitely has a cost. " D3 absolutely pauses if you are not in a multiplayer game. As sure as you might think you are, you're wrong. ![]() I cant be arsed uploading an animated gif or video, but at the least you can see in the screenshot the animation lines of a mid animation pause.
