This is my big concern over the melee revamp: melee looks strong in the trailer because we didn't see any Winter Orb, Arc or Soul Rend builds in the footage. While it looks like that berserker is having fun cycloning away, he seems to be making a meal of it: a caster would just oneshot the entire pack and leave within a second or two, and make a mockery of the "hit more enemies for better rewards" thing by easily wiping entire armies while melee carefully and slowly chooses a small group of targets before the time runs out.
Maybe Melee won't have the clear speed ability of a ranged class, but hopefully they compensate that by making melee much more tanky.
Or maybe they have a new support gem which can give you better screen clear.

The league may be interesting. We'll see. The important thing is how much the melee changes actually fix melee and make it comparable to spells and bows.
Also I hope this re balance is not only for melee skills but for other attacks as well as everything except spells and bows is severely lacking.

someone was rumoring 4.0 was coming out at the end of the year. Love that they are trying to change melee skills.

Imo I would rather see action rpgs compete with each other with a massive patch every year and a half. Between wolcen, last epoch, project lineage, lost arc, grim dawn, torchlight (maybe D4 if D3 falls into the void), there is enough action rpg's to learn how to create massive expansion packs while fixing the game criticism's as opposed to short patches. For examples grim dawns repetitive environments which are massive areas. Growing up on the old final fantasy games, there was nothing like the excitement of the next one coming out. Its all about the new journey, not the new small group of enemies.

Hope the melee revamps are better and more balanced now. imo, With range attacks the best skills can switch league from league however with melee they all need to be more balenced with none left out. If cyclone and molten strike are 80% of all melee builds its nothing new really. Nobody wants to play a weaker melee attack as opposed to a spell/projectile/trap/totem/miner/golem/brand with less dps but awesome attack/cast speed movement speed and area of effect. That awesomeness just does not apply to melee as of 3.4 anyway.

Because this re-formulates breach, which already exists in-game, there's some reason to hope that the implementation will be relatively smooth. Also, I like the effort being made to give players more control over how their characters move in-game.

One possible problem to arise is that if its assumed we have control and everything is balanced around that, then our ability to see and read what's happening may start to matter more. If that's the case, then a later wave of player concerns may focus on how hard it is to see and read through lots of effects simultaneously happening (an issue now, and it could matter more if we're expected to be able to easily get out of the way of any one-shot in the future).
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?
