I'd put Div cards over essences in priority... especially for new players. Div cards are pretty self explanatory. Essence crafting isn't really a concern for new players.
My advice though is to only spend what you can afford. If you can afford to drop $100 on the game, do it. Get everything.
If you can only drop $5, do it once a month or so and save the coins for later purchases. Don't think of it as $15 for a tab, but as three months of coins for a tab. Might make it more affordable that way.
It still costs the same, so it's not more affordable (what you're stating is a logical fallacy). It's still $15 for a tab. You're just stretching the cost over more months. If you're so cash-strapped that you need to stretch a tab price out over 3 months, there are much better [other] things you can do with that money. Don't waste it on a video game.
