Diablo 4 Would Kill Path of Exile
" This is a sad but true statement. Greed is human nature. These companies all start out with just a few genre Fanboys with a passion, then once they get a taste of that money, greed consumes them and the whole thought process is, "What can we do to make more money", What will bring in more profit" NOT "What should an ARPG consist of", and "How can we bring a quality product to the playerbase" and it's at THAT point that the company starts it's inevitable downfall. Diablo 2 was an amazingly loved game for many many years because Blizzard North never strayed from the path. Last edited by Boats_Reborn#4457 on Apr 10, 2019, 11:38:56 AM

LOL, Diablo is literally the only ARPG (until the publisher of lost ARk decides to release Lost Ark to Western market) where you can get a good MP experience.
Has anyone play with groups pushing the hardest content in Diablo. It required every team member to know what he/she is doing & compliment one another with their build. Its fun, & each game feel 'unique' enough. D3 may not be as popular in the west now, but there is a reason it's still quite popular in Korea & China, as there is a social/team play aspect you don't get in PoE. PoE may have very deep character customization & gears, but the gameplay is as shallow as an arpg game can get, as mobs fall like dominos. Barred a few bosses ( & those with multiple stages), 99% of the game is just spam big AOE skills, Mobs died within secs, bash to next pack, repeat. When mobs died within secs, no strategy is required, Just about every build plays the same way in PoE. Even small time ARPG like Victor Vran & Grim Dawn requires some strategy approaching enemies. Diablo 3 failure is using WOW designers, & have a failed sustainability model hence short on content updates. Literally, it is sold as a package game with ZERO MTX (except for China). The last time I paid something for Diablo 3 was the Necromancer expansion, & I got in the package 1) The Necromancer class 2) 2 extra character slot 3) 1 Pet 4) One wing 5) Portrait frame 6) 2 Extra stash tab For a grand total of 15€!!! Now, visit the PoE MTX store for & look what you can get for 15€ But Blizzard is the 'Greedy' one. If Blizzard gets a good team & release Diablo 4 to expectation, & have a sustainable financial model, many players will be flock back. |

Diablo 4 won't kill POE. There is more than enough room for both. They tend to attract different play styles or players who will play both to play different styles.
Diablo 3 definitely did not live up to its predecessor and/or hype. It in fact actually helped POE grow as there were many people upset with the direction of D3, early on. It has gotten better, but I never liked it all that much. Actually prefer Grim Dawn as my alternate to POE. A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Blizzard is now inescapable of making a good arpg. D3 is/was a fucking catastrophe.

" Personally, their design choice of "harder content = bigger numbers" is probably the dullest approach to an ARPG I've seen from a gameplay perspective, and exponential damage and health bloat is also the laziest design choice they could make. Having 3 supports and one super damage dealer is the not the group experience I want from an ARPG. |

" The only thing Diablo 4 needs to get right is itemization and it will bury PoE. There is no room for both PoE and D4 since PoE took a very deliberate turn toward mass appeal and cookie-clicker gameplay. It is no longer a hardcore ARPG for people who aren't interested in Blizzard's mainstream approach. Thus, PoE's current audience is Diablo 4's future audience. PoE is the grand master of "illusion of choice" - it looks like a hardcore ARPG because of its passive tree, crafting, etc., but spend a week with it and you'll discover a game that, at least in its present state, is absolutely braindead simple. Unless 4.0 brings massive meta changes to player health and damage, monster health and damage, offscreening, mobility, etc. etc. then PoE is destined to die as its clueless developers continue to chase player retention rates and continue to dump untested, unbalanced content in the name of fancy charts and statistics. There is no universe where PoE's baby-tier gameplay somehow attracts the casuals who will flock to Diablo 4 by the millions. PoE was designed to be a niche, hardcore ARPG and once GGG lose said hardcore audience because the game has become the antithesis of what it once was, they won't magically get a new audience of casuals who will fall in love with its clunky movement, terrible UI and bloated mechanics. TL;DR RIP PoE if Blizzard make Diablo 4's items interesting, which is PoE's only way of competing since it abandoned everything else that made it a unique ARPG. " they are the most casual and accessible games in their respective genres, which is why they get such huge sales numbers. exact same as diablo 3 was in the ARPG genre (remember, D3 is still the 3rd best selling PC game of all time) in terms of actual quality however, claiming overwatch to be a better game than counterstrike and hearthstone to be a better game than mtg is a complete joke. i honestly can't even tell if your post was serious or bait. |
