NEW PLAYER, Should i play Path Of Exiles?
" That guy is joking or doesn't know what he's talking about. No you don't need to spend $480 to enjoy the game. You can play the game for free. But realistically, what you'll want to do if you decide to take the game semi-seriously is purchase a few premium stash tabs (so you can set up an ad for other players to trade from you) and a currency tab (to store your moneyz) which should be like 10 bucks or so. The supporter packs are so your character can look shiny and have fairy wings (cosmetics). Last edited by coatofarms#2347 on Dec 26, 2018, 8:43:31 PM

I never bought supporter pack(s) but I do buy things I need to play game comfortably like premium stash tabs and some mtx I really liked. You will need premium stash tabs and they go on sale every 4 weeks or so if I'm not mistaken. And that's cheap and affordable way to support this great game.
Other than that since we have played pretty much same games I suspect that you will definitely like poe and end up spending a lot of time playing poe once you get immersed in gameplay and discover all game mechanics and build possibilities. Right now I have 4899hr spent playing poe on Steam client only but before poe came to Steam I played for year or 2 on standalone client so I should be well over 5k hours poe play time. And there is a lot of players that are well over 10k so I think that's what coatofarms was warning you about. But think about it, if it was that bad would players stick for so long with poe? Right now, after 7 or 8 years since poe came out, poe is still in top 10 by current player count on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/stats/ Not bad for such an old game don't you think? I say It would be shame to miss trying out such a classic ARPG that many players consider true successor of D2. Last edited by Sidad#4699 on Dec 26, 2018, 9:07:01 PM

Anything over $60 is going to be spent on cosmetics or more storage than most people would ever want to use.

It's a complicated game and if you don't follow a guide you're first build probably won't be viable for the post game. You can either follow a guide to get to grips on things or try and learn and re-roll. You can always re-roll the same class. There's lots of ways to tweak things in PoE.
Sounds like your kind of game really and being free to play it doesn't hurt to try. |

In my opinion, PoE is the best ARPG on the market right now, nothing approaches its depth and breadth of contents. I first liked it because of the dark gritty graphics, then the freedom of building your character.
However, the mechanics are really deep, and you have to read up and learn to get the most out of it. You will make mistakes, it’s inevitable. I noted you just want to play one character all the time, that’s fine, but you won’t know what you like until you’ve tried the game. Since you liked the shaman, maybe you can try rolling a witch first and see how it goes. She’s pretty strong and versatile in the current meta, won’t go too far wrong. |

" There's nothing worse than getting so entangled in this fear of failure to a point where you wouldn't even bother to try. Ofcourse you're going to do badly, it's something you've never done before. But it's far better to do it because it's something that eventually you'll learn to be good at. That's how you grow, and without growth, life's stagnant and that is not good. Is PoE worth bothering with? Yes, i think it's the best action - hack n' slash RPG on the market, and i also think that the fact that it's free to play is a miracle considering its quality. Here's what i recommend - You pick a class that you have an affinity towards. Say you want to play as a ranger class. Start the game with that class, pay attention to the tutorials, don't rush, and enjoy the game. Check guides to alleviate the possibility of failure for that class, and get some inspiration on how to properly set up your passive skill tree, how to properly set up your skill gems and what gear to use. As for a first goal, level that character to at least level 90, because naturally you will learn the game extensively while you're leveling to 90. |

Yes.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. |

Fairly new player too coming from WoW, Diablo 1, 2 & 3 and BDO the same as yourself.
It's a fairly overwhelming game to get started with as there are lots of mechanics and nuances to learn about it, there's a huge amount of depth to the game which I absolutely love... if you remember back to when you started BDO and knew nothing about contribution points, life skilling, awakening, etc it's that similar sort of feeling except there is more to this in my opinion. Unlike BDO though where there were lots of dead professions and items in that game - I literally had hundreds of thousands of chickens with no real use for them in this game all the currency has a purpose and feels like it has some value to keep. Last comparison to BDO I'll make is regarding the cash shop, to play the game seriously you will have to spend a little - premium stash tabs, speciality tabs (maps, essences, etc) help a bunch and of course cosmetics to look fabulous. However, it's all account bound unlike BDO and apart from stash tabs there isn't really anything else that's required to play efficiently and once you have the tabs you don't need to get more. The only mild annoyance I had was the cosmetics can't be used by two characters at the same time, for you if you stick to one character though that shouldn't be a problem. I tried making a couple of builds myself to begin with but ended up with very squishy characters, defence really does matter in this game. I had a much better time when I found Enki's Arc Witch guide which helped me understand things a tonne even if you don't play that build it's worth reading in my opinion. This game is a min maxers wet dream, I have spreadsheets for every game I've played as I love the maths and planning and figuring all that out and this game has a tonne of it. There's a companion app released by the community called Path of Building that's awesome and I've spent ages planning out my build, checking out items to see what % increase I'd get from an item... I'm hooked and swear I spend about as much time in PoB as I do PoE. |

" He's too busy having fun in-game to give any mind to the forum, I'm sure. Or he's playing Diablo Immortal. Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
