Article: Path of Exile players celebrate Diablo Immortal announcement

Oh no... you linked to General Discussion in your article! I'd never try Path of Exile if I were a new player and first thing I saw was THIS subforum.
The Bother progress: 11%

You don't even imagine how much harm you've caused. I'm not sure I'll live long enough to finish "The Bother". You're one of my murderers. You will never get my forgiveness unless you make up for what you've done.

... I agree with you but when is a forum different? Lol don't think anyone would play anything if we based it on the stuff that turns up on forums
Just you wait for the new TencentGGG game announcement... which is going to be a mobile game for the asian market. It may not be this year, but it's most likely going to happen.

No problem with that as long as they outsource it to a Chinese dev and the Kiwis keep working on PoE.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Exactly. Tencent could announce POE Immortal tomorow and I would'nt care. Why would I? GGG is still developing and improving POE. That's the difference, Bliz has more or less abandonwared Diablo 3, their fans where hanging onto the Blizzconn announce for some hope of progression to their game, and instead got nothing. We already got our upcoming league on it's way.
Didnt a lot of the player base freak out when poe went to xbox as well?

That didn’t happen instead of a PC version. I suspect Diablo folks would have been ok with this if it was in tandem with a PC Diablo 4.
Let's summarize:

1. Blizzard sold their souls to Activision to turn into a faceless corporate monster, pure evil.
GGG got owned by Tencent for greater good.

2. Blizz exported for consoles to please and take advantage of the filthy casuals. Cash grab, period.
GGG went xbox with the only intention to fund PC version and make it even better.

3. Mobile Diablo was a disgrace, a greedy move by an evil corporation despised by true aRPG fans.
PoE...well, soon. But it'll be for good anyway.

its not a new thing Blizz putting their foot in it and POE getting an influx of Diablo refugees... I think the first time was 2013 lol

He is right though, there was major shit-losing here when it was announced. I couldn't say that I knew for a fact there were separate dev teams and that the funding wasn't as simple as 'muh support going straight to Xbox losers', but eh. Gamer-rage is so easily dismissed these days. Something stupid happens like the incredibly bad DI announcement and it's like Viagra for the gamer nerds. And, like Viagra, it's only a simulation, a brief surge of vigour and vim.

'Diablo folks' would have been 'ok with this' if it hadn't been the replacement 'diablo' news that ActiBlizz outright spoke of weeks ago. ActiBlizz made one mistake with all this. Just one. They completely misread what 'Diablo folks' think of mobile gaming. They know now that simply not announcing it at all would have been better.

There is absolutely no doubt now that a new PC/console Diablo is being developed. Why ActiBlizz are being so coy about it is anyone's guess, but it's hardly a new thing for them. They've been pretty arrogant in the past about 'when it's ready', so why their ardent fanbase would suddenly be shocked at the lack of announcement after an announcement there'd be a lack of announcement can only attest to the average Diablo fan's capacity for critical thinking -- something Exiles have been questioning for years anyway. :P

The honeymoon period won't last. They never do. We can pretend we're all open arms and inviting and give us your poor and your huddled masses but the reality of PoE's elitism will be evident sooner rather than later. I only hope by then this latest wave of refugees from Sanctuary will have adapted and become elitists themselves. :)

I definitely know he is right; I just think the two situations are different. The difference is subtle but important.

Console port brought additional players to POE, even if it wasn't in a federated manner. I won't naively say that it had no impact on others (RIP CoC), but the impact was minimal compared to announcing the next version of a large franchise on a medium that is practically sacrilegious to PC gamers without coupling that with some sort of hope for those same gamers that were/are the bedrock of the Diablo franchise.
