15 European gambling regulators unite to tackle loot box threat
" This is your crux. You consider things YOU realize to be common knowledge. It's not. Also it seems you think you can just tell people to stop being addicts and they're like "Ooooh, right, ok". Would be cool. And sure, the government is corrupt and in bed with big companies. That's why the government in a good democracy optimally should be regulated by "the people" and the press, to achieve a balance and so "normal" citizens can mostly live without fear of randomly getting scammed/addicted/sick/dead. I'm not saying that it's cool to stay uninformed or to trust everything without thought. Ideally you produce your own food etc. to not be dependant on regulations. (But wait, how do you know whether your ground water is still drinkable without regulations on what your neighbour can do on their property?) |

Loot boxes interfere with game design, incentivizing incredibly grindy gameplay in titles in which (unlike PoE) it's not at all appropriate or fun - all in order to push players towards buying their way through the grind.
Loot boxes obscure the real cost of content, usually blocking players from buying it directly for a fixed price and thus taking quite a bit of control away from consumers. We can no longer simply pay a known quantity in order to receive a known quantity - such a system is incredibly one-sided towards producers (which is why casinos make money). Loot boxes prey on instincts that exist in everyone, even if they're not gambling addicts, to keep rolling the dice to get the shiny thing - especially if we have only one piece of a set left to go. But they're also commonly purchased by children. Loot boxes are a greedy cash-grab by companies that don't want to be upfront about the cost of a complete game, instead selling half-finished games at a $60 shell-price. Splitting up products and selling them one part at a time, jacking the prices of the shiniest and most attractive parts, is never beneficial for consumers. Loot boxes should NOT be illegal. But they should be heavily regulated and, perhaps more effectively, have a real social stigma associated with them among consumers. Luckily, this appears to be slowly happening as players get fed up with the concept of getting content piecemeal and not having any control over what they're buying. Btw, to everyone out there who responds to dirty behavior by very large and powerful institutions by blaming the victims: whole populations have been effectively manipulated, controlled, tricked, and stolen from throughout all of human history. There will never be a time when everyone suddenly becomes so savvy and prescient that they can see through all forms of manipulation, and demanding this of people is incredibly silly. I'm of the opinion that the fact that it happens is itself wrong, and it's up to us to do what we can - as consumers or through representative gov't - to prevent it. Saying "it's your fault for getting tricked" is not a solution whatsoever. Also no, this is not the most important problem facing our society. But a thousand issues are tackled at once by gov'ts and corporations and they're not mutually exclusive (mostly politics acts as a barrier to tackling the most important ones). Anyway, that's my two cents. We're all in this leaky boat together, people. Last edited by demon9675#2961 on Oct 24, 2018, 2:44:02 AM

" See the bottom of my response on page 6. Yes I am being lazy since I already said something about this. I have no idea if they are fudging the numbers and I would never accuse them of something like that. They are misleading people a little bit because of duplicates if you value them as nothing which most people do. |

Yay, more EU for the better!
You know, bunch of rich fat bureaucrats addicted of power and money want to protect you from gambling addiction. I'm aware of couple issues unregulated lootboxes can make, i.e. illegal cash laundering or underaged kids spending parents money without any refund options but EU "regulation" don't do a duck to prevent it. They will rather make another department, build overpriced glass palace from public funds, make more self-important bureaucrats from their family members and friends, force companies to register under stupid penalties and suck fat taxes from them. What change it makes to you? Well, the price of the lootboxes raises to compensate. And we all shall be a step closer to 1984. Companies sucking people's money is capitalism, governments sucking people's money is socialism, governments sucking money and not giving back anything is dictatorship, governments sucking money in hand with companies is fascism and bunch of self-imposted psychopats sucking people's money to make their lives more miserable - this is EU. And this morons here, talking about "personal responsibility", please go and tray to talk some junkies out of drugs. These people are driven by their addiction not their will. It's like asking someone to "stop feel the pain". Do you realize in 2018 Homo Sapiens Great Science know only the most primitive method to cure addiction - forced abstinence? |

" Nope. But it is to prevent a bunch of rich, fat opportunists addicted to greed and money from taking advantage of people. 5/7 for effort. Going outside is highly overrated
