Windows 10 is trash what do you think they gave it away for free for? You get what you pay for. Constant tracking and data collection of you is how they pay for it selling that shit to interested parties.

My suggestion is get windows 7 pro and don't update.

What's funny is that Windows 7 does the exact same thing, it only won't tell you about it or enable you to easily shut most of it off.

And so does Google. Facebook. Amazon. eBay. The Internet, pretty much. You have to work *really* hard to disable everything, and it'll cripple your internet experience for sure.

Performance- and security-wise, Windows 10 is miles ahead of Win 7. That's just fact. You may happily continue to run Windows 7 (or Linux) if you like, but these anti-MS rumors are getting quite tiresome, really. I'd be much, much more worried about the big guys, like Google and Facebook.

Came here to say this. I'm rather new to PoE, but I'm not new to computers, operating systems, and their inherent issues.

Win10 is MILES above any previous operating system from Microsoft.

You're crippling yourself by disabling updates.

Those updates provide new security, make the OS more stable, etc. It's impossible to create a hack-proof OS. Security in this sense is both PROactive and REactive. Though Win10 was built PROactively to keep you more secure, Microsoft must still REact to threats. As hackers continue to learn, and as new technology comes about, those updates will ensure that you have the best experience possible.

Microsoft is not hacking your computer or spying on you through your webcam. I promise they don't care about what the inside of your mother's basement looks like. (I kid.)

Seriously, though: If you don't want to use Win10, then don't use it. By turning off updates and allowing it to continue to run in its original state - even as individual sites and games are optimized to utilize updated versions of the OS? You really are crippling yourself.

PS - I run Win10. It updates every time an update is available like clockwork. I have no DC/lag issues in PoE. I run an old-ass 4GB 740ti on an old-ass i5 capable of something like 3.3ghz. That's it. My game runs fine in 2560x1080 resolution.

OP, if you haven't already allowed PoE through your firewall, please make sure you create an exception. My game crashed twice the day I installed it, but when I created the exception, it stopped. Another thing to keep in mind... if you have Virtual Sync turned on in your options, this will cut your FR in half when it's necessary. I'm not sure why that is. I've used VSync in virtually every game I've ever played and I've never had it cut my FR in half (that I'm aware of). If you're noticing FPS drops, go check out that setting. I keep it turned on because I'd rather deal with FPS at 30 or 45 than insane screen tearing.

As for being "the only game that requires downloadable tools like A, B, and C to play...." Have you never played WoW? Elder Scrolls online? FFXIV? Any of the big games out there at all? Before I quit playing WoW (Blizzard is just shit now), I counted 22 add-ons running with my game every time I loaded in. With ESO? I think I had something like 10. FFXIV? About the same as PoE - just two or three since the API isn't available to developers and most add-ons would technically be against the ToS.

Would be nice to get error codes or a dump as to why it crashed. I've had two crashes since betrayal launched, none before that but I chalked em up to the new league and some issues that GGG reportedly fixed. Friend of mine however has crashed dozen of times and I cannot figure out why.
Upgrade your potato.
