Nice fucking game, GGG

Your XP PC isn't fully functional and you know it. Many programs and applications are unsupported at all, or work unstable.
Not that you can't use the PC, but its functionality is limited.
It will be all the same when win7 is out of support.

With PoE, we have a very unstable performance by default. It's the nature of the game, related to its technical qualities. Coders pull out their hair how to make this piece of garbage engine somehow work with the "newest" versions of OS (mostly windows) and DX, while at the same time keeping graphics and aesthetics up to date - it's nearly year 2019.

And you think PoE is gonna work with an unsupported OS.
Try installing it on the XP machine and share how does it feel :)

Happens a lot, especially when you are in delve, many currency rooms and temples lost, poe stopped working or unexpected DC, stupid game design when you reenter and everything is gone.

What do you mean gone? I still have a computer with windows XP works fine. There are offices running windows 2000 still. 7 is not going anywhere.

(probably my last windows OS in fact since MS is getting so invasive)

Yeah they trying to do this:

Aha! But if it happens a lot, is it really unexpected?

bla bla bla , no it's not. My PC is rock solid, no issues what so ever, ever. Explain that?

It's fucking Windows 10 and all the Meltdown/Spectre patches that have drastically changed the OS kernel and have reduced stability and decreased performance since January when the news of the Intel cpu cache flaw hit the Internet (also that shit hit the fan). Ever since Microsoft has been deploying patch after patch after patch in an attempt to compensate for Intel's processor cache design flaw from the early 2000s. Beaucoup updates from day 1 (January patch Tuesday) have done everything from causing spontaneous reboots multiple times a day (WTF! Windows was just idling when it rebooted!) to flat out BSODing (total foobar) upon rebooting after an OS update was installed.

My solution after reading about all this Meltdown/Spectre shit is that since I run Windows 7 Pro with it set to inform me of updates but don't automatically install them was to never install any OS update that had anything to do with Meltdown, Spectre (and variants), or any other cpu cache patch. The end result of my skipping all of these updates is a gaming rig that runs with the same performance as last year (no 5% to 30% performance drop) and with none of the PoE crashes (PoE can still crash if I {Alt}Tab out too many times, but that's always been a PoE problem since it has no in-game trade or info system... have to {Alt}Tab out to look up stuff).

Sure my gaming rig is vulnerable to Meltdown and Spectre. But:
1. It's my own personal single user (me and only me) computer.
2. It will never be allowed to have other users simultaneously (not multi-user).
3. I do full hard drive backups once a month (and incremental every week).
4. I don't go to any crazy websites that could infect my computer.
5. Most important, my little old gaming rig has nothing on it that would
be of any value to anyone else so I'm never a hacker target.

Sadly, Microsoft has eliminated the manual OS updates (show updates but don't automatically install) so the best that can be done it to set Windows 10 to defer installing for 35 days. There have been many rushed out Windows 10 updates that have had to be rolled back because they were buggy only to be replaced a few days or weeks later with a better (less buggy and/or destabilizing) update. So setting Windows 10 to delay installing the automatic OS updates for 35 days is your best (and only) solution.

Now if you are running Windows 7 or 8 (yuck!) and have had all these updates installed and it's foobaring PoE more than usual then only a clean install of Windows 7 and then immediately go into the Windows Update control panel app and "Change Settings" and set it to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" to be able to stop the Meltdown/Spectre OS kernel change shit.

There is application called "InSpectre" , run it, disable all the b$ security updates for the thing that has been around for 20 years and harmed nobody.

Set your internet connection to "metered" in windows (network and internet settings, google exact steps).

Done. No more slowdowns, no more automatic updates.

PS. Doesn't solve the OP's problem. Game servers are crap. Sometimes (my case) Paris is rock solid, then it starts lagging or CTD, then London works fine, until it doesn't, then change to some other, maybe Paris again and so on. Must be fun for HC, tho, CTD is what they do on purpose anyway, so idk.

So if a city instance crashes you lose it completely. If you go back you cant enter anymore. If only there was a way for this piece of "art" to not lag, stutter and crash all the time.

Poe has always been badly optimized, forget what some of these guys are saying windows 10 windows 7 updates bullshit whatever.

unles u have mid to high end hardware u will have problems,
crashes/fps drops/freezes/laggs it took em 3 years or something like that to handle desync so....
Another crash into a city node!

could you specify your system specifications?

Don't even start with your "system specs" bs... PoE is notoriously poorly optimized and you can have a NASA supercomputer and still get fps drops and and crashes. It's the software, stop acting as if good hardware is gonna make crappy software run better. Demand better optimization from devs rather.

I haven't crashed in several leagues now, and my PC isn't very high end. I don't get FPS drops (though Dynamic resolution kicks in occasionally, but that's what it's for)
