Essentially my proposition was formed against the mentality that we are given a SC league until level 90 or so, after which everyone is forced to play HC regardless.

So after level 90 you're loosing your character with all the gear in SC and not just 10% exp with no delevel? Didn't know that, guess your complaint is absolutely legit.

More refering to the mentality than the outcome
Whats wrong with the mentality? It requires you to think. Can I do the guardian on this map mode without dying? If I can I get the spoils, if I cant I still get the spoils but also a penalty. It encourages planning. No penalty = no planning, simply rushing until your portals disappear.
Hey guys
if everyone wants to get everything with no effort in this game (except me)
then go play d3 or WoW or something
Lets give a stupid example because why not. Lets compare taking on a hard boss in SC with penalty, SC without penalty and HC with.......asking a girl out. Why not?

So in current SC with penalty - you can improve your chances by working out, taking good care of yourself, building up confidence, etc etc. There is a chance you might fail and even if you do fail the consequences are not lasting. You'll get some ego bruises, people might joke at your expense, big deal. You can work to improve your chances and try again, its not game over. Hell, you might even learn from your mistakes.

In SC without penalty - well, the girl is basically obliged to give you some no matter whether she likes you or not. Basically some harem fantasy where your whole school is your personal kingdom. No penalties, no real reason to improve or think about your mistakes.

In HC - if the girl doesn't like you she pulls out a gun and murders you on the spot. Game over. You better be 100% sure you know what you are doing.

So you see, all 3 cases are quite different from each other. Claiming that up till level 90 you play one way then immediately after level 90 you turn 180 degrees is kind of foolish.

I have a good one also for you

There was a compagny where their employees wanted more sickdays and proposed to have unlimited sickdays. Well as you would think most of the management said it was a stupid idea because of the fear of people abusing those sick days.

So it went on and on with both side arguing about it and in the end one guy said, why dont we try it over a period of time and see how it goes.

Surprisingly after their tests period they noticed a trend that people actually took less sick days than before so they kept that policy and its working really well in the end.

Interesting isnt it ? :)

Why did you describe a similar story with an ending where as expected, it didn't work and then gave up on the idea, couple of days ago ?

hmmmm

Edit : there you go, found it :

That is funny cause most of you against removing the death penalty come with speculative arguments on how people would behave in a future that have yet to happens ;)

To make a parrallel, I remember like 4-5 years ago there was debate at work for unlimited sick days, and a lot of management were against it because they said employees would abuse the shit out of that...

Well in the end they were wrong but they had to TRY. A league would be a perfect test bed for it.

....
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Well we could easily try a no xp death penalty in a league and see how it goes.

We can arg all we want , in the end its GGG call so aside from playing devil advocate there is not much to do in this thread now.

I still think the death penalty is not the best idea and I do understand the concern against removing it but like Pohxx post about why he plays SC now:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/9l6yz2/why_ive_decided_to_play_softcore_after_5_years_of/

might show a bigger problem with the game design in the end.

Oh, just give it a rest already! Taking an extreme position (maybe even pretending others defend this extreme) is not helping anybody.
Clearly a lot of people feel the xp penalty is too harsh, so there is a discussion to be had. You've made your point, you feel it's OK. That is fine. But if you feel this discussion should stop now, then you can just leave it and let those still interested continue. So that others can still make their arguments and have their voices heard.

Really, you are the least constructive poster I have ever encountered on this forum, and that is a low point, indeed.
May your maps be bountiful, exile
