In game chat totally inappropriate
/ignore is your friend. As far as you care, /ignoring someone removes them from your world. You don't see them in town often, you won't party or trade with them; they are hellbanned from your game, piped to /dev/null, gone. Use it carefully, but don't be afraid to use it. I would be surprised if GGG isn't able to pull some interesting metrics on "the problem players" by just sorting by 'most ignored'.
The real community-killers are the cynics that set up self-fulfilling prophecies such as, "Buncha fuckin' kids" and "Of course it's shit, it's free". Cynicism is many times worse than ignorance and immaturity -- it's knowing something is broken and putting more pressure on it instead of putting in the effort to fix it. If you a want warmer, happier global chat, be the person that cracks a joke and invites people to play with you. |

Let me expand that recommended ignore list...
/ignore CassieBlakeBlackwell /ignore Supeg |

I like how ppl is selfish enough to think that ignoring someone solves all the problems. Trolls will keep good ppl away from the game. They get in the beta, see the comments on global chat and leave saying that the "community is fucked up, just like it was on d2" or whatever they came from.

" People are not playing this game to make friends, and it's not like other mmos where you need a group to complete the game. People will play this game because it's fun, not because comunity is frendly. But there is somthing a community can do, make a list with names that trolls or insults (with screenshot of chat as a proof). We can make a sticky on the forum and update it with names that should be ingored, so people will maybe start to be less hostile, to not get on the list. |

What if a certain number of ignores locked someone out of chat for a while? Not sure what the right amount of time would be, but it would be a bit of community self governing without preventing the player from playing.

" For things like that we need to wait for devs to program it. But community can do a lot of things alone. I really am starting to think, that someone should make a thread with names that should be ingored (maybe moderator). We will post screenshots and their names, so post gets updated. It can't hurt if we try. |

" Bad idea. Once the game is OB, the trolls will unite and use that tool to silence other people that aren't doing anything wrong. I have never understood why it can't just be part of a few people's job to log in for 5 minutes once every couple hours and banhammer people that are detrimental to a good community. There is no need for report buttons or this or that. The people aren't privately trolling, they do it in the public channels. Any GGG employee with banning authority could log into default right now and find someone being inappropriate in global chat within 5 minutes. Do that off and on for a few weeks, and the rate of those people will go down. " ... to let them know the game isn’t going to be very fair from here on out."

"And I like how people are selfish enough to think that they should be able to chat with the entire universe at once and still expect everyone to be one nice big happy family. By all means have reporting and bans people for really horrible racial/sexual vilification or whatever. But this is not a problem that can actually be solved 100%. The best way to only talk to people you like is to...only talk to people you like. In the long term, things like private/party/guild/whatever chat channels are going to be much better solutions than constant moderation. |

" They aren't doing that because this isn't World of Warcraft -_- "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" - Voltaire Grow up... Who cares, it's a freedom that can either be utilized or abused. Use the ignore feature and move on with your life... Last edited by MurderMan#0969 on Mar 13, 2012, 5:31:49 PM

Somewhat off-topic, but since you're talking about "ignore" lists...
Am I just being daft, or is there currently no way to remove people from your ignore list? I only have one person on mine and I added them by mistake (right-clicked on them instead of the person I was playing with, and when I went to click out of the box to close it I accidentally hit "ignore"). Felt sort of bad about that, but couldn't find a way to change it. Global chat was no help, haha. |
