From the trend that this game is going, default will the be absolute chaotic mess come open beta. I've seen many people play exclusively HC only to avoid default. But to me the death penalty to be moved back to that mess is just too high. Here's hope for somewhat of a middle ground league

I've honestly had zero bad experiences with the global chat. Is this because I play hardcore exclusively?

Personally, I really don't care about people's behavior in chat. /ignore is always an option. However, I know others feel differently. Aside from that, once this game goes into open beta, global chats are going to turn into a flustercluck even if people aren't being vulgar. There will just be too many people talking at the same time.
That being said, chat channels would alleviate both of these problems a lot. It wouldn't be so hard to have "moderated" and "unmoderated" channels. GGG would neither have to force anyone to act in a certain way, nor force anyone else to have to interact with people who act in a way they dislike. Protecting the rights of both parties is clearly the best.

Last I heard, they were still planning on removing global chat entirely in favor of local channels.
Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

Ugh, that's a really poor solution. All that does is stop people from having conversations across different areas. Even worse, it stops newbies from being able to consult experienced players.

Awww, did the people on the internet say mean things?
Why is this thread still alive? Trolls will be Trolls... Butt hurt people will QQ, and the rest of us will move on with life like adults. Please deal with it.
^^

Dismissing/ignoring the problem doesn't solve the problem.

I agree people should be able to express creativity. But when people who are especially creative in that they hurt others with their words repeatedly for fun- they need to be given warnings and maybe even kicked from the game depending.

Good reasons to ban: Clogs global chat, Discourages many if not most (even the people that find it amusing) in using said chat, and alienates the newer players.

Ex: Within the first 15 mins of PoE ever, chat was filled with N-bombs and incredibly filthy language. It stayed that way for most of the day, with small breaks in between.

Ideas? Well, GGG probably knows every trick in the book- although I would just suggest an extremely thurough filter and an "Abuse form". :(

I agree with the OP

Spamming and abuse should be punishable offenses imo, like the chat log above. Those comments had 0 substantive value, and were clearly intended with the explicit purpose of annoyance, which lowers the pleasure people have with the game, which can lead to people leaving the game.

Those who repeatedly announce their annoyance in chat are the ones I find the most annoying.
