The obvious secret to getting rich
" Congratulations, you have identified a problem and conveniently it's solution. If you don't know what things are worth... look it up. Say you have something drop. It's not hard to input it's rough characteristics into poe.trade to get an approximate readout on it's value. You can also do the same with theoretical items you COULD use for your build, to get an estimate on what you can expect to pay for it. You could also just see what other people are valuing or, yanno. Ask people that do more trading then yourself what to keep an eye out for. You can even price check things via trade or the Trade forums, other places, so on. The information is out there, and it's not something that requires a college-level post-graduate program to get at to and understand. You just need to look for the information. It's literally no more difficult or different then planning or looking up a build. Sometimes easier. |

" Right. That sounds easy as fawk on paper but as you very quickly pointed out, asking others for their advice is often met with - go check poe.trade or some "stop being stupid" it's not rocket science attitude. Poe.trade is a mess of ridiculous information and very confusing to new players and casuals. I was entering resist values for years and just recently discovered i should've been using the 'pseudo' value when searching instead. It's not new user friendly. For that to be a thing, you're also assuming the player has a strong grasp on the crafting and way mods work. |

The obvious secret is knowing exact value you can sell something for. If i list a super good ring for let's say 5 ex. Three things can happen. 1) It's overpriced and won't sell 2) It's underpriced and it will sell really fast 3) It's the exact perfect value at which someone that has 5ex will pay for it in 1-7 days.
The closer you get to 3) when listing your items the more money you will have. Also working your way around lowballs is the best thing you can learn. These people that try to buy all items "offering" less currency than it's actually listed for. You don't imagine the amount of times i've been told "it won't sell, it's too high price, etc" and i've sold it 1h later. Use trade macros, as many as you can to manage this trading system. Looting atm is not that rewarding unless you trade the good stuff you find. "In this game you're just a cow being milked, not a human being entertained" - Kiss_Me_Quick

" I've been putting things in 1 ex b/o, 10 c b/o tabs en masse and moving into decreasing values to see what sells.. for things I think are worth something. My idea of worth must be so far from actuality though as most stuff won't sell until it hits 1c. The worst thing too, is how many times this weekend I got a notification that Some_Dude wanted to buy my item for 1 exalt but once trade was opened he'd put 1 chaos in the window. Seriously wtf is this? It has happened to me too often to be a misunderstanding. |

Here the idea: just check poe/discord on `price check` subchannel.
You`ll get soon whats ppl lookin for in items and selling for. `soon` lol Its the way of awareness. Or you can go blind as many do: list for 1x at first, then low prices with time. More attention needed in process, but no need to spend time on getting exactly what patterns are sellable. ======= Selling rare items can do up to 5-10ex per day when you know whatcha doin. Its when you have time and days to run game for like 10-12 hours with some mapping and some usual afk for IRL. And have like 5 premium tabs filled with items worth to sell. Sure need time to fill em up at the first place. This is for gaming actually ,) and usually they are set when you get into the tier 7-9 from the league start. This is how I make 6L`s to my first chars in leagues. Last edited by DarkJen#6961 on May 15, 2018, 12:21:19 PM

" I don't get why it's easier for one side of the game (builds and build help, basic mechanics, etc.) and not for trade. Mostly because it really isn't, at all, and with trading being by design a fundamentally core part of the game, you're actively hurting your ability to gear for certain things by not devoting at least some time to figuring it out. You also seem to have a disconnect between 'asking for and expecting help from random people', to 'asking for and expecting help from people that actually want to help'. Marlon Rando on Tradechat or any part of the forums is likely to not have the time, patience, or ability (or a combination of all three) to help you out with anything, much less trading. Filter the information out as useless and keep trying. That should be blatantly obvious. If you need help (for anything), you need to find people a) willing and b) able. I mean, I get why I don't trade - I have aggressive social anxiety and extended contact with random people outside of a familiar or safe space (in particular things like trade interactions or bothering people at random) is something I'm mentally unable to do. But that doesn't stop me from being fully aware of the methodology within which one can solve what is a very simple problem. Particularly on a forum where feedback and information can be exchanged (it's easier to offer help/information when it's being asked, then for me to seek it by bothering someone that may not be interested). You could also find friends (bear with me on this one) that are more interested/more capable in trading and either asking them to help you out, or even ask if they could broker deals for you for specific items if you are uncomfortable with trade. Group collaboration isn't exactly banned or prohibited, though some people would have you think it is in some cases. Options exist, here. It ain't Everest. It is not the English Channel. You can surmount these problems with a bit of effort, and then once you obtain the information, much like building a successful character and planning that out, it becomes a hell of a lot easier to deal with every single time. Or we could treat it like the bloody Great Wall of China and bash our heads against it when the gate is right there and open because it's a tourist attraction. S'up to you. |

" It's not a misunderstading, it's just a common thing that some people try to exploit. That's why u need to be very mechanical in the way you trade and check 5 times that you are not getting scammed. Start at high price and then lower is a quite functional thing. But to do it efficiently (at least the way i do it) you need plenty of stash tabs. When items reach too low price 1-2c or they've been sitting there for while 5d+ then i simply vendor unless it's early in league. I personally have a notepad file where i have all my custom trade messages, poe.trade links that i check, things i need to be mindful about etc. I also put there the exact date i updated prices on my shop tabs. Alongside shop tabs having at least 2 quad stash tabs to mass dump loot as you map to then check everything in one session. Also recommend one "price check tab" 'PC' as i named mine, where you put things that are potentially craftable or that need exact price checks or just things waiting to be vaaled. This imo is very important because you don't get distracted while killing stuff and then you pay more attention to details when you are only price checking. Checking loot after every map can be disruptive imo as you are changing the pace constantly. "In this game you're just a cow being milked, not a human being entertained" - Kiss_Me_Quick

" But, if trading is a core part of the game, why does SSF exist? |

You really want wealth in a league ? ...
1) Buy stash tabs 2) See 1 above. ---------- But if you run chaos recipe, especially the 2 chaos producing recipe, you can get enough currency to get by very well. Easily 4 chaos an hour even on 4 tabs. Stash tabs though are where it's all at. The more of those you have the more items you can sell and have wait around for a buyer, rather than dump for space, and also the more recipes you can fulfill, for the same reason, you didn't have to dump items for space. You could mule characters/accounts but that is far more tedious and slow and nowhere near as efficient, as just having all the tabs under 1 belt. I don't care that POE is Pay To Win... I'm not trying to "win"... I'm here just to have fun. And fun, it has to offer. |

Because people campaigned for it and wouldn't leave the issue alone until they got it, though I'd also point out that 90% of the time it was asked for prior to it's release it was under a caveat that it would have better drop rates. And that people still ask for (with varying levels of demand) that the fact it doesn't be addressed.
It was a very easy bone to throw and placate people that wanted the additional challenge, and it was never advertised as anything but an additional challenge mode similar to and compatible with Hardcore mode by GGG. It is up-front designed to be harder then the core game by removing a core feature (the exact same way Hardcore limits you to one 'death' before punting you out of the league). |
