I hope for the day I find shit on my own rather than trade.

I don't see why you don't SSF. I think you'd find nearly everything or most likly everything you need. Hell I'm a fifthly casual and do but real dedicated players like yourself are already about to hit 100 tomorrow (some are 99 right now in flashback after 5 days). In beast guys were beating Uber Elder in two weeks. SSF.

Really no excuses nowadays with great drops, cards, masters, essenses, beasting and so on to target what you need.

When I said players had a price, you've just proven me right. If you found a mirror of kalandra on SSF and you've made clear you care about rarity and comparative value resulting from that, I suspect you'd migrate from SSF in a heartbeat.

Nope, that's not the SSF way. The value of getting a mirror in SSF is linking it in chat and being accused of RMT.

It's the little things that matter.

Some people enjoy significance in the journey you know.

You're very quickly approaching ignorable levels of pointless antagonism across the board. Which bothers me, because I said I'd never do that, but god damn you're trying your best here.

I laid out very clearly why it's masochistic, and you completely missed it. I know it's a lot of words but take your time. Implicitly accusing me of not 'enjoying the journey' is pretty fucking stupid given I'm infamous for replaying core game over and over and over instead of getting addicted to the treadmill of Mapping, isn't it?

If you're still struggling after a more thorough read-through of what I said, I'll provide a TL;DR for you. But only if.

Edit: what exactly does 'grinding 1 month to finish a character over 2 days' even mean?

I wasn't implying anything. Your just dreaming that up and the antagonizing alongside it.

My question was easy, how is grinding over the course of 1 month to finish a character(SSF) "self-punishment" or "masochism" compared to 2 days of playing.(=trade one day, gear out the next)

I wasn't implying you don't "enjoy the journey" but are you saying that "enjoying the journey" is the new-generations "masochism and self-punishment", if so i definitely am in that group.

If not, please do provide that tl;dr.

Maybe i should have started with asking "do you agree with GGG that SSF is for masochists?"

I feel compelled to point out that when Boem said 'the journey' he most likely meant the journey of finding gear and pushing through all the tiers of the end game. Not the story mode journey.

Hiy look at that, maybe my post was not antagonistic at all.

edit2 : and the whole Kaoms vs value in my opinion doesn't make sense.

For me when i am playing SSF it's
A) farm kaoms via div cards
B) drop it in the wild

So yeah B feels great, not because of the value compared to the market, but because the alternative would require a tremendous amount of work to accomplish so you just got a lucky streak.
How is that not something to get excited about? I see why your trying to pull the market value into it but it's a non-notion for me on SSF.

Have a good one.

Why they needed to put in a migration function is beyond me -- people who willingly play SSF are, in my experience, quite committed to the concept. Most play account-bound SSF, as in they can mule anything they find to other characters, which means drops that aren't really 'useful' for one character can be for another, even if you can't trade them away. I'm willing to bet most SSF players would have gladly taken a drop rate increase proportionate to the loss of trade access (whatever that might be) in exchange for the inability to 'migrate' anything from SSF, making it effectively a void league that would never filter into the shitshow that is Standard's economy. Very much willing to bet it.

So this very unusual implementation of SSF taught us two things about GGG, things we already strongly suspected but had not had confirmed:

1) they are so committed to the idea of trading in PoE as a natural part of the experience they view SSF in PoE as self-punishment/self-handicapping/masochism but couldn't admit openly it so called it 'an optional challenge' instead;

and

2) they believe that everyone has their price when it comes to giving up a challenge. I suspect the migration function is there in case you find a Mirror of Kalandra on SSF. Who wouldn't migrate THAT? Well, I wouldn't. I've had Mirrors given to me by the game in Descent and didn't once go, gosh, I wish this was Standard. It was just another item in that mode, and in SSF it'd be just another item too. If you're playing with the market in mind, you've no business on SSF in the first place.

Yeah, that. I've never once wanted to migrate any of my SSF characters. So yeah, I would happily give up the "migrate" ability if it meant a buff to drop rates.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'
I like SSF mostly because drops have meaning again and i can freely use currency instead of hoarding them. Minor exception for Mirror if it ever drops, i will likely keep it as a trophy in my currency tab.

Given GGG stance on not adjusting drop rates for SSF, you shouldn't plan for a build unless the items can be target farmed.
Current "easy" to target farm items are Oni Goroshi, jewels that are available as quest rewards, Tabula Rasa, certain cards(lol) to name a few.
Given enough time however, it is possible to plan as you acquire stuff with your leaguestarter.
SSF HC is a totally different beast though...I am not M enough to play that.

Bestiery was good for SSF but RIP anyway.

Also good for when 5055 decides to compare whose balls are bigger.
I have an Alien pet.

Not so easy to find your own shit when you use an outhouse though.

To be honest, finding a kaom's in ssf while not being able to use it in my current build is like finding a tyrael's in D2 without being able to use it in my current build.

Just because I get excited at the rarity doesn't mean it's for a perceived market value, it's just because it's rare.

Pretty sure I'm not alone in the fact of just the enjoyment of finding rare things in arpgs, but to me that's one of the main fun things that the genre offers.

tldr: Even if you couldn't drop out of ssf I would still be excited at an unusable rare drop

Like when I was a little kid all I did was mf mephisto and baal and some pindle runs and it was very well rewarding.

Here I'm practically a taskmaster controlling the strings whether it be from my crew or myself this is fucking lame but by all means it's necessary than it's necessary but it doesn't mean I can't hop around hoping =(
