This game's curve is seriously out of whack...

Why am I a level 50 Shadow that's unable to solo Cruel Lunaris Temple?
How am I supposed to somehow balance dodge chance, armor reduction percentage, AND elemental resistances? We're not even going to TALK about chaos right now. No matter what I do, I'm boned. I have ~600 health with ~900 Energy Shield, maximum fire resist, 30% block with 20% dodge, and I pop Molten Shell and/or Granite Flask when I get swarmed, and still I get instantly killed by a Righteous Flame mob who double crits me. And I PROBABLY desynced somewhere in there, as well. This game started off fun, but it's reaching the point of obnoxious the further I get into it. I can't even purchase upgrades at this point because everything costs some amount of EXALTED ORBS once you hit 50+. Sure, I could farm shitty bosses and vendor enough rares so that I can sell some guy 200 Alterations just for a single piece of gear upgrade - then repeat this 9 more times for a complete set. And hey, I'm sure I'd gain a couple levels in doing that! But you know what, that's not fun. So tell me. Am I MISSING something? Or is this game's actual design supposed to appeal to the same crowd as Runescape? I WANT to like the game. But I'm beginning to have a hard time doing so when I get quick-popped (half the time from a desync) and lose whatever experience I gained over the last hour. |

Never played Runescape so idk...
I can say, your life and ES are way to low. You will most likely get the most benefit from a re roll at this point in your character development. Take what you have learned and apply it practically. Plan out a defined build and invest in lots of HP or es it's difficult to do both well on a new account. Research research research :-\ this game will drop the hand holding at the onset of act two cruel. If its too hard too solo, party up. Keep at it you will get there and that is half the fun in this game. :-) IGN ambericequeen Last edited by bna240#0450 on Mar 1, 2013, 11:20:39 PM

Act 3 does seem to be leaps and bounds more difficult than act 2...and it's even worse on merciless. Maybe they intended this, maybe they'll re-balance...I don't really know. I know that most of MY problem revolves around desync, so I'm eagerly awaiting the fix for that and to see what the game is like when I can actually hit reliably in melee without delay or without attacks missing because stuff isn't where my computer says it is. Or when I can accurately position my ranged character and regain the ability to dodge charge attacks, etc.
I know they've mentioned something a long time ago about re-balancing incoming damage on act 3, and on merciless. I can't say that it's not your build's fault, but just know that act 3 is REALLY hard. Act 1 Merciless is actually easier. |

Looks like it's your first time playing. It can definitely be rough when you're starting out. It's a hardcore game, and some of the content is just flat out difficult. Could you post your build, and perhaps we can give you a few pointers? Gear and skills too.
Alteration Orb Union Local #7
I'll smash your nose with 20 Alterations before I'll sell them for 1 lousy Chaos. 16:1. No questions. |

trade trade trade. I attempted to play for as long as I could solo. I made it to act 2 merciless on my own; and was stone walled. I found that my gear (which i thought was mediocre) was terrible compared to what I could get for a few chaos orbs. Not even joking, 1 gcp and 3 chaos orbs and I had more than 2X my DPS, and more than 2X my survival. I did the same thing on my lower level marauder, and for a lower price, got about the same results.
It is the gear curve that is really off in this game (and chaos damage) If you stay well geared, the content is trivial; most of the time. If you waste your currency trying to make yourself a good item early on; you will find the game to be very hard. The easiest, fastest, bestest tip I can offer for melee is the skill enduring cry. Keep your endurance charges up at all time and you will live through most things. |

So you think the first char on a game should be a full success?
What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything: A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones. Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings. What am i? |

Link your skilltree. You might have taken a few too many damage nodes.
I have made a few characters to merciless without buying anything. One character even had a magic weapon and magic chest purely for the sockets. You can't build too much into damage and expect to survive. You also shouldn't focus on armor at all as a shadow. ES and Evasion are your buddies. " no he doesn't. the game is hard man, give us some info about your stats, so people can help ya. don't give up! “Human decency is not derived from religion. It precedes it.”

Oh my god, I'm kinda mad right now... I had a whole typed up response, and went to view my character's skill tree and it redirected my current post to a new page. I hit back, and it's all erased.
Oh well, lemme redo this a little shorter then, I suppose. Bna, here's my issue though. My combined health + ES is actually NOT low, realistically. I'm a Shadow. Now, I know Marauders are rocking something like 3k+ hp at this point. But in truth, that's kind of just not possible for me to have done. I grabbed a health bonus or two on my skills, but I grabbed a lot of bonus ES skills as well, and plan to spend the next 10 points or so in even more - and then after that, I plan to spend a few to add more block chance! I've definitely had survivability in mind. In fact, I've had it in mid more than damage or whatever else. My honest conclusion is quite literally that I cannot sit here and tell you that all 10 of my equipment slots are 100% top-notch and optimized as a level 50 character. I'll even show you my gear! As you can see, it's mostly pretty good! You might have some things to say here and there, like "your ring doesn't have health" or "there's no resistances on your whatever". But that's just back to what I said. I shouldn't be held back because of TINY little things like that, especially when I'm only level 50. And the problem with this is that I've been farming and setting up forum shops for over a week now. And this is what I have to show for it. That's all of my currency. And that's what? Slightly over an Exalted? Go check out what people are selling! Anything that's even considered an upgrade from my gear is STARTING BID 1x Exalted. It's at the point of ridiculousness for me, man. It's hard enough finding the items with the specific stats you need in the first place. Then when you finally do and the dude has a c/o of 3 Exalts and 2 GCP's, you just kinda... throw your hands up in the air and walk away. EDIT: I forgot to link my current build. http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgYAAP0FtQzyDkgRLxGWFLAWvxdQF9gZ1x4aKCowVDY9OVI6MEwtTm1YB176YeJnvW0ZcFJw1XWKf8aCHofbiEKIa5lXmZqboZ2jpcumf6yYsbO0xbVItve8N8BRwcXB88Nt0DnUBeOE62PsGO1B7m_z6vfX_Kv_kw== I plan on going CI, but right now that would be suicidal. I'll have to wait on that I expect til I'm about 60 with appropriate gear. Btw, I'm permanently missing a skill point because I did Normal Mode's quest for Oak's +40 health. It's VERY sketchy of a possible reward being +1 skill point for killing all 3. You only learn this if you talk to the guy in town. But if you just wander from one bandit to the next and to the next, you aren't given that option. So, naturally, I thought there was no 4th option. :/ But that's a minor point. " You don't need the best gear either but will have to pay over a chaos or so. I don't waste time with less. Also you can click your. Character at the top left and click the passive tree to get a copy of it to link. I feel your frusteration I was there, then I just accepted I needed more HP and Life Leech or not play at all with that character. Right now you are at the tuning part of building your character don't give up. Go farm city of sarn for gear and avoid the unique boss monkey. |
