What does chance to dodge mean?

I know there's dodge spell damage, and dodge attacks, but the boot mod say chance to "dodge". The wiki calls this conditional dodge, what does that mean. I couldn't find it anywhere. And I'm trying to decide which atziri's to use

It means you won't take damage from a hit at all since you, well, dodged it.
dodge means attack dodge, its like block, if something simply says block is means block to attacks. Both block and dodge are an rng % chance to completely avoid taking damage from an attack.

spell block and spell dodge are then a chance to avoid a spell, thats different from just block or dodge which writen on their own like that inherently imply attacks only.

Its called conditional dodge/spell dodge because you only get it under the condition that you have taken a critical strike recently on the first pair or have taken spell damage recently on the second pair. They are not permanent buffs to your dodge/spell dodge, they are temporary buffs that have a conditional requirement to activate for a given period of time. Recently = 4 seconds.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

So that enchant "chance to dodge" it's assumed it means "chance to dodge attacks" or can it dodge spells and attacks

I'd like to assume it means both Attacks and Spells (when not specified)

Guess you could test it if it shows up on the character window.
SSF since ~OB
its attack dodge, if it doesnt specify spells then its always just attacks, if it was both it would specifically mention attacks and spells. They should really just relabel it with attacks so that its clear.

the other enchant is better, the spell dodge one, evasion rolls against incoming attack crits, if youre dodge u probably have some amount of evasion. You will get hit by a spell an awful lot more frequently that would will take a crit, and spell dodge is arguably better than attack dodge because your evasion already works against attacks.

If you simply put the boots on and go to a rly low level act where nothing can hurt you then stand in front of a horde of spell casters shooting at you eventually youll see it proc in your character sheet, and only your attack dodge will go up by 10%. Try it out and then ull know for sure.

It definitely should be specified, as players without several years of practice and diploma in PoE can get easily confused.
Wording is a bit of misleading.

"dodge" = strictly dodging attacks, always

"dodge spells" = dodge spell damage

if i am not wrong, because its used to be only dodge only (= dodge attack), no dodge spell.
Until they modified the passive tree.

in short
Dodge came 1st, then Dodge spell.
Perm. Retired from this unforgiving land of the Exiles.
Self-impost EXILED.
Ok then what's "Evade"?

The wording on Evasion and Dodge needs to be fixed. Long due.
It's the same fkn thing.

Unlike Armour where a damage calculation takes place (and then you die anyway because Kitava Slam > 4 billion armour), Evasion is Boolean: you get hit or not.
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun
