What's the point of stack sizes?
" Another valid point. Thanks Squiddy. Reinforce the feel of the game is what I'm getting at. 'It is good to contact a moderator if you feel someone is being a twat' Charan, Forum Moderator

Most likely because when they were first developing it they put in stack sizes because that's what all the games they're used to playing do. A bit like having limited inventory space because that's what all the games of this type do.
Forget the fact that a witch can't even wear an item because she lacks Strength, she can carry 5 of them in her backpack - because this aspect of RPG meme is ok to be forgotten for some reason, where as currency stack sizes, Oooh, can't leave out that meme. Either that or they're hoping someone actually crafts something at some point and stack sizes might kinda force that on someone at some point. |

" I haven't seen any other game where currency took so much space for no reason. And certainly no other game where you had to pay or make another account to get more storage space to store your currency. And regarding your last point, it's silly to think that players would waste valuable orbs on items simply to free up stash space. The pen is mightier than the sword, yet it is more permanent than a pencil.

" I was thinking about editing the word currency, I obviously meant small 'items' such as healing potions, gems, scrolls etc. |

This is not an issue. It's YOUR issue. Deal with it or try other titles. Thanks for bringing it up though.

" And you're right about that, but those aren't currency. Since currency is so important and valuable, so much that the "inventory management" argument is thrown out the window, what is exactly the point of adding limited stack sizes to currency items? The obvious reason in any other game would be to force players to buy stash tabs. But everyone gives GGG the benefit of the doubt and assumes there's some obscure hidden deep reasoning behind this "feature". The pen is mightier than the sword, yet it is more permanent than a pencil.

Gotta sell extra stash tabs some how ...
Shrug. GGG - Why you no?

" Actually....9 times out of 10, or 9/10, those items ARE currency for the community. You think people used gold in D2 for anything but repairs and rezzing their merc? You think people used gold in D1? What about TL? What did people use for currency in TL2? I'm pretty sure a majority of players DID NOT use the games standard currency. Even in an MMO like GW they used an item with a certain stack size as currency over the games monetary currency. IT'S NOT CURRENCY, IT'S ONLY THE PLAYERS WHICH CALL IT CURRENCY, YOU CAN TRADE ANYTHING, PEOPLE JUST PICK THE SMALL 'ITEMS' TO TRADE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE DO - YOU COULD HAVE BREASTPLATES AS CURRENCY IF YOU WANTED BUT IT'S UNLIKELY TWO PEOPLE WILL WANT EACH OTHER'S BREASTPLATE - SO PEOPLE CHOOSE TO TRADE WHATEVER IS 'NEUTRAL' WHICH IN THIS GAME HAPPENS TO BE SMALL 'CRAFTING' ITEMS.
BUT YES, I AGREE, IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF YOU COULD STACK THEM IN AN UNLIMITED WAY. I DON'T CLASS IT AS A GAME-KILLER THOUGH AND IS BETTER DISCUSSED ON THE 'SUGGESTIONS' FORUM. damn, sorry abt the caps lock, to hell am I retyping that. Suffer my caps exile. |
